The first pattern is a Hummingbird feeder for your deck. You will need to weatherproof it if you plan to leave it on your deck but it can be displayed indoors as well. It is a little over 10" tall. The pattern calls for 1/4" and 1/2" thick wood.

A few weeks ago I was asked to pick up a relative's dog from a kennel and take him to their home. It is a super sweet dog but big and very strong. The first time I walked the dog I was surprised by how strong he was. My Sister-in-Law and I got the dog in the car and I thought we were good. I went to get in the passenger seat and the dog jumped up front and out the door. I could not move quickly enough to stop him. We were next to a busy road and I thought things were going to get out of hand. Luckily when I yelled for the dog he stopped and let me grab the leash. I was very relieved that he was safe.

As you can probably tell, that inspired the old man pattern today. I suspect it will not get too many downloads but it felt like therapy for me so I posted it. 😁

Water-Based Acrylic Craft Paint.

I often get an email about the coloring I add to my projects. The frog below is an example. I normally want the grain of the wood to show through the paint. To make this happen I use a water-based paint(Acrylic). It is too dark out of the bottle, so I add water until I get what I want.

For the last year, I haven't cut many of my patterns because of time. In that case, I 3D render the project and add textures to make it look as real as possible. The frog above is simply a render but it shows what I am after with the paint wash.
I use the DecoArt Americana brand because it is relatively inexpensive but most acrylic paints will work fine. I pour out the paint and add water until I get what I want. It can be difficult to make more than one batch and make them match so I make more than enough on the first try.

The example below is a pure paint patch and a wash. The wash is about as light as I go because it gets patchy when you get too light. You want to avoid overlapping dry paint with wet because the overlap will get darker. Have scrap wood to test the paint wash. It is best to use the same wood as the project if possible.
