My father passed back in the mid-1960s. He was born in 1910 so he would be 114 years old now. He worked for Mr. Kresge the founder of K-mart. Back in those days, K-Mart had a food store next to the department stores. My father traveled around Indiana opening the food stores and managing them until they were up and running well. We moved often. Sometimes we would only be in a location for less than a year.

My father worked very hard at his job but he always had time for me. I was only 10 when he passed but he would let me go to work with him and do jobs like stacking drink bottles in the back door and cleaning the shelves. He always checked my work and would tell me if I did something wrong or right. He was always trying to teach me to be honest and kind to others. He also tried to be a good example himself. He was. I remember a time when I was at work with him and an employee came to the office and said we had a shoplifter in the store. When he saw who it was he told the employee to leave her alone but help her get the groceries to her car. My mom asked him why he did that and he said she was a widow who had lost her husband recently. He did not want to cause her any more pain.

I was very fortunate to have a great father. He set my work ethic and my desire to be kind to others. I still think about him often and miss him very much.

The deer scene is 10" wide and all the layers are cut from 1/4" plywood. It has three layers and a base.

I play with AI to make content. I used one of the AI music generators to create a song using the phrase, "I want to be the man that my father taught me to be.". My contribution was only that one line but the computer did a decent job finishing the song. I like it and it makes me think about my father.
