80 years since the dropping of the A-bomb Enola Gay Scroll Saw Pattern

This pattern was not designed to celebrate the events in 1945. It has been 80 years, and most people alive today are not old enough to have more than history lessons about WWII. This pattern was designed as a memory starter and a push to read and watch the lessons from that time. Amazon has quite a lot of books and memorabilia from the period.

80 years ago this year, the nuclear age began, and everything changed for war and peace.

People can debate over, if the US should have dropped the atomic bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. It ended the war, but also caused unimaginable suffering and death. For me, it is difficult to judge the leaders who made that decision 80 years ago this year. They had so much to lose if the war continued. We would likely have eventually won, but probably would have required the invasion of Japan, which would have been brutal for all sides.

The plane is 12.5" long, and the pattern calls for 1/4 and 1/2" thick wood. With the exception of the lettering, the pattern is pretty basic.

 Warning

While there are no human graphic visuals in this simulation, it does show the destruction of a city, including the blast, shock wave, fires, and aftermath. If this type of information is bothersome to you, then do not run this simulation. I'll be honest. I started this as a game, then realized that the events are way too serious for a game. When that realization hit me, I decided to turn it into a lesson. The first screen of the simulation has several facts about the atomic bomb. I also tried to show how the bomb blast happens

Toy Train Scroll Saw Pattern

The Toy Train pattern is 10.25" long. The pattern calls for 1/4" and 3/4" thick wood. There are patterns included for the wheels. If you prefer to buy the wheels that are 1". You will also need a 1/4" wooden dowel for the axles.

As always, make sure the toy is age-appropriate for the child. The wheels on this toy make it unsuitable for children under three years of age. The smallest part for children under 3yo is 1 1/4" to prevent a choking hazard.

Making kids’ gifts in your own workshop is a special kind of fun—there’s nothing like watching a pile of scrap wood turn into a toy that’ll get real squeals on Christmas morning (and yep, it feels pretty darn good. But right alongside the creativity is the serious part: child safety. Toys should always be age-appropriate, sturdy, and finished with kid-safe materials—no sharp edges, loose parts that could break off, pinch points, or anything small enough to become a choking hazard for little ones. A quick “who is this for and how will they use it?” check before you build goes a long way toward making sure your handmade gift is not only memorable, but safe.
