Here is an email I received that I wanted to share. Some great points here for those of you looking at buying CorelDraw for pattern design. Barry has been using illustration programs for 15 years so I value his opinion. I think you will also. Barry also pointed out that there are hundreds of tutorials and tips on the web that demonstrate features of the older versions. He mentions looking on ebay for the CorelDraw suite. That is how I bought CorelDraw the first time. I did get a good buy but I always like to mention that you need to know what you are looking at when you make a purchase on ebay. Do your home work and watch the seller feedback.

-- I just stumbled upon a video (then more) of yours on YouTube for
scroll saw use with Corel. I like the comments regarding using Corel -
but - I'd like you to also comment that a person interested in using
Corel does NOT have to get the latest version.
-- While they may not have all the 'interactive' tools - they can get
an older version of CorelDRAW Suite (the full suite) for as little as
$15 on eBay. I routinely recommend CorelDRAW and believe that version
9 is about the single best investment that anyone can make if they
want to learn to use a vector program. Version 9 will make nearly
everything that X3 or X4 will do - just a LOT less expensive (for the
full suite).
-- I am an unapologetic user of Corel products and would like to see
them reach their former glory. At one time, into the 90s, Corel had
as much as 86% of the graphics market worldwide - Illustrator,
Freehand, etc do not come close in either ease of learning or power -
especially in the cost department. So the price is not 'expensive'
but in reality is cheeeap - even for hobbyists. And then you can
lessen the cost by getting an older version. X3 is the first that had
a BIG jump in actual utility over v9. And you can get X3 for under
$100 - all legal and unrestricted - not a student version.

scroll saw help. :-)
