This is a fun little mouse for you to make. My wife was good enough to make the little Santa hat for me. I'll leave that up to you to figure out. I used walnut for the mouse and maple for the cheese. I glued up two pieces of maple so the cheese would be thick enough.
I wanted to point out a couple things for you. Notice how the ears are notched to separate them. I did this after the body was cut. I used a technique that is not recommended but worked in this case. I did a free-hand cut with only the nose on the table for support. Made the cut fast and clean but might be slightly more dangerous. Use what ever tools you have handy. A carving knife or a Dremel tool with a cutting wheel would also work.
Also look at the tail. I tapered it thinner as it got to the point. I just sanded it to get what I wanted.
I used a couple different drill bits to make the holes in the cheese. 1/2" and a 1/4" bit.
You might also consider making a scroll saw box out of the cheese with the mouse on top as a handle. I did not design the pattern for this but it would be easy to modify.
This is another one of those projects that uses up scraps of wood. The little mouse looks good all by itself sitting on a shelf with his head looking over.
