Resizing Scroll Saw Patterns. Watch the Video for details.

For those of you who would like to resize my patterns I have put together this video. It gives you two options for accomplishing this task. It is important to watch the video or the program below won't make much sense. The video shows how it is done in Adobe Reader print dialog and how to use RapidResizer Online to freely load and resize my patterns.

RapidResizer Online is a web site written by Patrick Roberts. He kindly allows my readers to use his service for free to resize the patterns from my collection. It only works for free with my patterns. You may find it valuable enough to purchase a yearly subscription that allows you to upload and resize any pattern.

The program download below is an interface I wrote to interface with RapidResizer Online. It allows you to open one of my patterns that you have downloaded and send it to RapidResizer Online for resizing and other tasks. Again if you don't watch the video this won't make much sense.

Simple three tea light candle holder.

Sometimes a very simple project can be fun. This three tea light candle holder is almost Shaker inspired in design. If you left out the interior cuts it would be even more Shaker like. All you need is a board that is 2.25 inches wide and 10.5 inches long. This is one of those projects that uses so little wood you might even use some of that exotic stock you have laying around.

You will also need a forstner bit to drill out the recesses for the tea lights. My electric tea lights were 1.5 inches in diameter so that is the size bit I used. If you chose a different size candle make sure to change the bit size. Forstner bits are not cheap but they come in very handy if you can pick some up. You can buy them individually or in sets.

If you don't have a forstner bit then just use 1/2" thick wood and cut the holes with your saw. The tea light will still stand proud of the top and look fine.

My DVD pattern catalog and the 2013 update are available for purchase now. The first DVD contains all the patterns from the first 6 years of the blog. That's over 1,100 patterns. The second DVD is the update for 2013 with another 178 patterns. The main DVD is $20 + shipping and the update is $7.50. You can order both from CLICK THIS LINK

I hate being sick.

I have spent the last two days in the bed sick. It's just a bad cold but it kicked my rear. I don't get sick very often but when I do I'm a big baby. All I want to do is sleep until it goes away. I'm hoping I will be back on my feet by tomorrow. I missed work Monday and Tuesday so I can't afford to miss another day.

The cold has put me a mile behind on answering email. I'll try but I probably won't get to all the unread ones. If I miss your question wait a few days and send it again.

Basketball Trophy Scroll Saw Pattern.

I got sick just in time for the weekend. I started feeling bad late Friday so I have been laying in front of the television all day watching basketball. I watched the Kentucky vs LSU, Louisville vs Cincinnati, Syracuse vs Duke and the Arizona vs Colorado games. There are a lot of great young players on some very good teams this year. I wish a few of these young guys would stay in college long enough to see them get even better. Can't hardly blame them for going to the NBA and cashing in. My Kentucky Wildcats are full of young guys. They start five freshmen. They are a decent team but if we could get them to return for their sophomore year I think they could be incredible. Unfortunately that's not likely to happen.

After binging on bball all day I thought I would make another basketball trophy. This one is eight inches tall. There is a pattern for each eligible number. If you have a school that you support this might be a nice trophy for the guys to keep. The image of the basketball in the background is included in the pattern book. Glue it to the backer board then glue the backer to the trophy.

Without too much trouble you could add the school name in place of the "Let's Play" to customize the trophy.    www.stevedgood.com/basketball14.pdf Just wanted to mention The Lifter from www.papasworkshop.net . This is a great product if you own a DeWalt DW788. If you own this saw you know that there is a feature that is missing. The upper arm will not stay up when changing blades. The Lifter fixes that flaw. It's easy to install and easy to use. The Lifter is $29.95 but for the readers of the Scrollsaw Workshop you can get it for $24.95 by using the voucher code "steveg". Just enter the voucher code in the checkout page to get this deal.

Small Chef Cutting Board Scroll Saw Pattern.

Sometimes you only need a small cutting board. This one is small enough to throw in a drawer. You should use a hardwood such as hard maple, black walnut etc. Woods such as poplar and pine should be avoided. They won't last long. I would also avoid exotics as some contain oils that can cause an allergic reaction in some people.

Mineral oil is a good food safe finish for cutting boards. While almost any modern day finish is food safe when completely cured they are frowned upon. People will be skeptical if you tell them you used something other than a natural finish.

Snowboard Scroll Saw Pattern.

It's one of the most popular televised Olympic sports this year. Watching these men and women fly down the slopes and 50 feet into the air is impressive. I just watched Alex Deibold grab a bronze medal for the US in the snowboard cross in Sochi. Snowboard cross is is a downhill race with up to six competitors on the hill at once. Not only do they race down a winding course they take on several jumps on the way. It really is quite exciting.

Corner Shelf Scroll Saw Pattern.

This corner shelf is about the right size for a candle or small decorative item. It's cut from 1/4 inch thick wood. The shelf is attached with tabs for strength.
Make sure you pay attention to the correct assembly of the side pieces. They are not the same and can be put together wrong. When the shelf is installed the sides should be even. Hawk Scroll Saw - BM Series vs ULTRA and G4 Series Video.

The Hawk scroll saw has been around for many years. A few years ago Bushton Manufacturing took over production of the line from RBI. They have continued to make improvements to an already fine professional level saw. Their current BM series of saws are even more reliable with more adjust-ability. The video below from Bushton Manufacturing shows the improvements as well as some of the nice features of the machine. They say this is the first video of more to come.

The Hawk comes in two models the BM-20 and the BM-26. Those are for the 20 inch model and the 26 inch model. the current pricing is $1200 for the 20 inch and $1400 for the 26 inch.

If you are interested in a professional level saw this is one to consider. You can get more information on their website. HawkWoodWorkingTools

The Pledge of Allengiance Scroll Saw Pattern.

This one will be a challenge bit of a challenge. The size is approximately 10.5 X 8.5 inches.

The Pledge of Allegiance of the United States is an expression of loyalty to the federal flag and the republic of the United States of America, originally composed by Francis Bellamy in 1892 and formally adopted by Congress as the pledge in 1942. The official name of The Pledge of Allegiance was adopted in 1945. The last change in language came on Flag Day 1954 when the words "under God" were added.[Wikipedia]

Seattle Seahawks Super Bowl Champions.

Congratulations to the world champion Seattle Seahawks. The Seahawks dominated the game from the beginning. I don't think many people could have predicted that the game would be that lopsided. Seattle's defense was just outstanding. That was not shocking but the fact that Denver's offense was so bad was shocking. It was also painful to watch Denver's defense miss so many tackles. They looked like they were playing in quicksand.

This trophy pattern will make a nice remembrance for the Seahawk fans who are having a great night. Congratulations should also go out to the Denver Broncos. They put up some incredible numbers this year.

Valentine Sweetheart Clock with optional custom name dial.

This Valentine Sweetheart clock is easy to cut and finish. It uses a standard clock movement that you can buy at most craft stores. Walmart also sells them in most locations.  The pattern has complete instructions for making the clock.

The pattern includes the standard un-customized clock dial. Just print it out on high quality matte photo paper and glue it the the clock face. Notice that the clock in the picture has my wife's name on it. For $5 I will make a custom dial for you also with your sweethearts name.  After I complete the pattern I will send it to your email. You will only pay after you receive the dial and are completely satisfied. You will be able to pay with a credit card or you can mail payment

The dial is 4" X 4". you do not have to use it on this clock. You can order the dial and use it on a clock of your design.

I will probably only take order for a few days because we are so close the the holiday. If I get behind I will stop taking orders. If you want one order it soon. Use this link to place your order.

Below is the dial. After I made the original clock I modified the dial a little. The heart now has a high light. It needed something to make it stand out a little.
