No more sticky fingers.

Most scroll saw artist's use spray adhesive to apply the pattern to the wood blank. This can be messy if you try to hold the pattern. I use a pull out tray from under my workbench. I just replace the peg board insert when it get's too gummed up.

If you don't have room for a pull out tray then the next option is to cut your self a spray paddle. Just cut the pattern from 1/4" thick Baltic Birch ply and you are ready to spray. No more sticky fingers.

You are a Superstar Scroll Saw Pattern.

This is a 9.75" "You are a Superstar Sign". Great for a child's room or as an award for super achievements.

The other day when I published the Impossible Golf Ball in a Cage pattern I said I would see if I could find a source for the basswood blank online. This block of basswood from Amazon.com is exactly the right dimensions except for the length. You can get two of the cages from this block. When I purchased it from Amazon a few days ago it was $7. I just noticed the priced has increased to $7.95. Here is the link to the Amazon.page for the product.

A few people emailed me to let me know that Ocooch.com had 2" X 2" X 12" basswood block for $3. When I put it in the cart the price is $16 including the $13 shipping.

I have a Prime membership on Amazon so the shipping was free for the block I ordered. I think this product ships for free even without a prime account but check that out before you buy.

Five Snowflake Christmas Ornament Earrings.

Christmas? Yes it's time to get started making inventory for your holiday craft shows. I'm going to start you off with a set of five patterns of Snowflake Christmas Ornament Earrings. I'll be slowly working in Holiday patterns over the next four months.

These earrings are a bit of a challenge to cut but they should sell for a decent price. They are cut from 1/8" thick hardwood. Each of the patterns are about one inch in diameter. All the entry holes can be drilled with a 1/16" drill bit. I used a #1 Ultra Reverse blade to cut this set.

When you are cutting very thin stock like this slow your saw down to help keep control. You can also stack cut these which can make control easier. Learning to use the back and side of the blade to stop your cut will make these easier to cut. It can be easy to over cut the pattern when making a turn in this stock.

This is another example where the outside cut is a circle and needs to be cut accurately. Flaws on the circle will make the earrings look sloppy and hard to sell. Take your time.

I will soon start taking orders for my yearly Custom Name Christmas Ornaments. I like to design new ornaments every year. I have had several requests to bring back some of the patterns from previous years. I'm still trying to figure out if I can manage that. It gets difficult to manage more than a few because of the process I use for orders. I'm working on it. I will be doing at least one of the layered Christmas ornaments again this year with custom name. They were very popular last year and I get request for those often.

Jesus Saves Scroll Saw Pattern.

-
 ~10.25 X 6.25 religious word art pattern.

After yesterdays Impossible Golf Ball in a Cage pattern I received several emails asking where to get the bass wood. I purchased mine locally at Woodcraft in the carving section. I know some of you won't have a local supplier so I checked on Amazon. They have a 10" X 1.75" X 1.75" block for $7.00. I ordered a block to check out the quality and size. I'll get in a couple days and let you know if it is suitable for the project. If you are interested here is the link to what I ordered.

Impossible Golf Ball in a Cage.

This is a fun and easy project that will intrigue anyone you show it to. The golf ball in trapped inside a solid block of wood. The wood has not been cut and glued back together but somehow the ball is inside and won't come out. How is it done? The pattern has all the instructions you need.

This project is best cut from basswood.

Watch the video below to see it in action.

Jet Mini lathe and accessories for sale.

I need room in my shop. I have not used my lathe in a couple years and it's time to move it on to someone who will use it. Here is the deal. Watch the video to see what you will get. If you can pick it up in Lexington KY this week you can have everything for $300 cash only.. NO SHIPPING no use asking. I'm too lazy to pack it up.

The lathe and sharpening system work well. It's a little dirty with a few scratches. The 4 jaw chuck is stuck on the head. It's been on there a couple years and will probably need some liquid wrench to get it off. I didn't try very hard so it may come off fine but just wanted you to know.

The lathe comes with a stand. It also comes with the bed extension but you can't use it with the current stand. If you install the bed extension you have to put it on your own stand.

The tools that come with ti are cheap but functional. I primarily used it to turn pens. The 3 piece pen set is decent.

The lathe is not the electronic variable speed version. The speed change it by moving the drive belt.

I don't think I have the manuals but I'm still looking.

Email me for phone number.

FIRST COME FIRST SERVE.

This is as is final sale.

Flameless Candle's. Caldle Wall Sconce Scroll Saw Pattern.

The flame-less candles on the market today are very nice.  Not only are they safe they look very natural. I purchased this 4" tall flame-less candle at Meijer's but I found them on Amazon also. Here is the link. Flame-less Candle. This candle has a switch to turn it on or set a 5 hour timer. If you turn it on the timer at 8pm it will come on every night at 8pm and light for 5 hours.

The pattern is a sconce that fits this 4" candle. Easy slot and tab construction. It hangs from a nail.

"Drinks on Me" Coaster Scroll Saw Pattern.

I cut these coasters from 1/4" and 1/8" Baltic Birch plywood. They are nice and big with the cork center being 4" in diameter. I bought the cork pre-cut from Hobby Lobby. The cork is 1/8" thick. I used red spray paint to  give them some color.

This is one of those projects that is a little more difficult than it looks. The center circle cut-out has to be cut very accurately. Any imperfections will really stand out here.

Here is a link to my "Curve and Circle Cutting Tutorial" if you need to brush up on the technique.

Little Ducky Pan Vent Scroll Saw Pattern.

I cut and sanded this project in less than three minutes. No finish required.Throw 1 or 2 of them in a bag with the included label for your next craft show sell.

Cost of materials. Bag ~ .40 cents. Label ~.90 for color .10 for B/W. Wood ~ .50. Go with the B/W label and you have buck in materials. If you stack cut you can probably make around 25/hour. I would charge $3 for the product. That's $75 - ~$25 in materials giving you a $50 profit. Cut the bag out and use the label for a sign in front of a bucket full of these and you do even better.

My math is rough and this won't make or break you day but it gives you something everyone coming in your booth can afford.

The Fall Arts and Craft shows are coming up soon. You need inventory. Don't forget to include a guilt product in your booth. A guilt product is when someone comes in and talks to you about your products. Maybe they don't want to shell out $50 for that beautiful wooden bowl. If you have an inexpensive product they will sometimes buy it just because they don't want to walk out with nothing. As long as the guilt product has value it will often sell out. Christmas ornaments are another product you can often sell very easily.
