It's been a while since I added up the stats from my blog. I have been posting patterns since May 1st 2007. In 3272 days of blogging I have posted 2605 times. That's a post every 1.3 days for nearly 9 years. I have uploaded 1731 free patterns. Those patterns have been downloaded an amazing 39,396,724 times. The blog has been visited 8,300,528 times.

My email newsletter goes out to 21,100 subscribers.

My Youtube channel has 20,230 subscribers with 8,454,998 video views. That's pretty good for a fat ugly guy. I do have a face for radio though.

I'm not bragging, well maybe a little. I mention these stats to say thank you for what you have done for me.

On May 1st 2007 I was out of town doing training for my job. I was not in a very good state of mind. Work was becoming stressful for me and I was just not happy. That night, sitting in my hotel room I decided to start a blog. I just wanted something to keep me busy and take my mind off things.

I had been a woodworker for several years and a computer geek since 1979. I had at least average skills in both hobbies. That was how I decided to start a blog in woodworking. I knew I didn't want to do traditional woodworking so I limited the blog to scroll sawing. My plan was for the blog to be a place where I could teach pattern making. I quickly figured out that most people just wanted new patterns they could download and build. The image below was the first pattern I posted.

I was surprised that a few people showed up and downloaded the pattern. That first year my patterns were downloaded a little over 42,000 times. I thought that was amazing. I really never expected much from the blog. In year three there were more than 3 million downloads. That's when I thought maybe I could keep it going. 

Here I am today. I am having more fun with the blog than ever. I'm retired from my career and able to spend more time on the blog. Hopefully that extra time will improve the blog over time.
