Fun job this week:
Anytime someone in the family gets married I design and make a wedding reception box. The box is used to accept wedding cards from the guests. I always make the box big enough to hold wedding memorabilia after the wedding is over.
I always use the scroll saw to customize the box with the name of the bride, groom and wedding date. Sometimes I'll add some others decorations also.
This weekend, one of our nieces on my wife's side of the family is getting married. I have the pleasure of making the couple a wedding reception box. I am about 90 percent finished but still have the ornamentation to cut and of course the finish.
These kinds of projects are fun but they also make me apprehensive at the same time. Wedding are special events and I always second guess the design. I want to get it right and make it something the couple will keep and enjoy the rest of their lives.
I go through this battle with myself every time I start a project like this. Having confidence in your craftsmanship is more difficult to learn than the skill it's self.
The good news is that they always seem to work out in the end. At least no one has said they hate them so far. :)

Summer heat is hard to beat in most non air conditioned workshops. Fans just don't help much when temps reach over 80 degrees. Two years ago I installed a dual hose 12,000 BTU Portable AC unit and it has worked great. I am in a two car garage and I can get the temp to 70 degrees even on the hottest days. Here in Kentucky we seldom get over 95 degrees. It's been 93 this week and the AC is keeping me in the shop. I don't have a window in the shop so I had to go portable. I ran the hoses through openings I cut in a side door. They are easy to remove if I need access to that door.
The dual hose portable AC units are much more efficient than the single hose. I tried the single hose first because it was cheaper. It could not keep the temp down enough to do any good.
It does take about three hours for the air to cool that much but at least I can continue to work year round. I do have to clean the filters more often because of saw dust but that's no big deal. Once a year I remover the cover and clean the coils and all the interior.
