Trivet Scroll Saw Pattern. Hand Powered Disk Sander.

Six inch trivet. Trivets are easy to make and functional. That's a nice combination. They can also be as decorative or plain as you like. This one has some decoration to it that kind of reminds me of a stained glass window.

I always get the questions of how you prevent a wooden trivet from scorching when you put a hot pot on it. The answer is actually very simple. You don't. If you put a pot hot enough to scorch wood on the trivet it will scorch. That's exactly what it is designed to do. It gets scorched so your counter top doesn't. A scorched trivet has served it's purpose.

The part of this project that concerns new scrollers is the circle. Cutting circles can di challenging because imperfections in the cut really stand out. If you want to learn more about the technique for cutting accurate curves and circles check out my Scroll Saw School Videos.

Also remember that with a disk sander you can easily sand away your errors. If you don't have a disk sander check out the next section.

DIY Disk Sander:

This video shows how I made a hand powered disk sander for cheap. It's an easy afternoon project that actually works pretty well considering it is built from scraps. The sanding disks cost more than the rest of the project all together.

I used six inch 80 grit adhesive backed disks. I over paid for them at Home Depot but you can get them on Amazon cheaper. Here is a link to a set of 10 for $7.31. If you don't have an Amazon prime account for the free shipping make sure to check out that cost first.

If you watch the video do me a favor and hit the subscribe button. I'm at 28,043 subscribers and I want to get that over 30,000. While your at it hit the like button on the video. That helps my channel. Thanks for the support.

WEN 3962 Two-Speed Band Saw with Stand and Worklight, 10"

WEN is starting to get a reputation of making good quality entry level tools. This band saw will do light duty resawing up to 6 inches thick. For a scroller that's not bad.

This machine is selling an Amazon right now for $235.88. That is a low price for a tool with these specs.

The average review is 4/5. Not bad for a band saw because they are not easy tools to set up correctly. They will get bad reviews because the people buying them don't know how to set them up correctly.

I good blade is essential on a band saw. The blades that come with these lesser priced machine are usually not great. You will probably have to invest in a better blade if you plan to do any resawing.

  • 3.5 amp motor creates cuts up to six inches deep and 9-3/4 inches wide
