Playing a musical instrument is one of the most popular hobbies/skills in the world. In the US alone over 21 million people play the piano. The guitar comes in a close second followed by the violin, drums, saxophone, flute, cello, clarinet, trumpet, and harp.

Spray adhesive for applying patterns:
When I apply a pattern to the wood I use spray adhesive. My process is to clean any dust from the wood. Apply either blues painters tape or Peel and Stick to the wood then affix the pattern with spray adhesive to the tape. I know others have different processes for applying patterns but I am sold on this method. Yes, I have tried every method there is.
In the picture above I have four different cans of spray adhesive. Some work better than others with my method. I want a permanent adhesive. I am not concerned about removing the pattern because the pattern is not glued to the board. It is glued to the tape. My main expectation for the spray adhesive that it does not allow the paper pattern to lift while I am cutting.
The DURO brand on the left works well. The price is usually not too bad compared to some other brands. I used to buy it at Meijers but they stopped carrying it. It takes the glue a minute or two after the pattern is applied to become permanent. The pattern will slip around until it sets up. Sometimes this slipping is good and sometimes its bad.
The 3M GP 45 is my favorite. If you buy it on Amazon it is under $6 a can. If you order over $25 the shipping is free. That is easily the best deal of this bunch. The 3M 45 is permanent and dries fast. I almost never get any lifting of the pattern when I use the 3M 45. If you do not use tape under the pattern you will have a hard time removing the pattern from the bare wood. It is sticky stuff.
The smaller can of LOCTITE in the picture is useable but not great. I will get some lifting especially when the fretwork is small. It takes a little longer to setup after the pattern is applied. I would call it a permanent adhesive but not the best. It is also under $6 at Walmart. In a pinch, I will buy and use this spray adhesive.
The last can of LOCTITE on the right is useless for attaching patterns. It is what they call a middleweight bond. The lifting of the pattern makes cutting even larger fretwork difficult. It is also the most expensive of the four products above. It is over $9 a can. Don't buy this unless you want a repositionable pattern.
These are obviously not the only brands and types of spray adhesive you can buy. My point is that they are not all the same. You may need to experiment to find one that works well for you. My recommendation is the 3M General Purpose 45.
