Another Stacked Scroll Saw Basket Pattern.

I have done a few of these stacked basket patterns. I decided to do another one because they are so popular. Each one can have a unique pattern so I think it's fine to have a few to choose from. I also included detailed instructions in the pattern.

I added a round top rim and round base to this pattern. I think that adds to the beauty but it also takes more wood so it's optional. I show in the pattern how you can just use the interior waste piece for the bottom. It does not have to have a top rim.

There are a few reasons these stacked ring baskets are so popular. They look nice. They are functional. They require very little wood to make. You can stack cut them from 1/4" thick wood to make more than one at a time. The basket in the picture above was cut in under 45 minutes. That is an interesting looking project made in a small amount of time. They make unique gifts and they have that "How did you make that?" look to them.

Another interesting thing about these stacked ring baskets is that they are very popular with the laser cutter crowd. When I'm traveling I often see these in boutique arts and craft stores. This type of pattern works very well on a laser cutter.

The laser cutter does have one advantage over a scroll saw. It can engrave. In this picture, I used this pattern to laser cut the basket. On the top round rim, I engraved The Lords Prayer. I cut this from 1/8" thick Baltic birch. I shrunk the pattern down to 5-inch diameter so it's very small. Cut at full size and sanded it would look better but you get the idea. I call it a prayer basket.

The engraved font is only 1mm tall. It's tiny.

Which Scroll Saw Should I Buy?

Sometimes it's handy to have a visual representation of a number. I think that is true when comparing different sizes of a scroll saw. When you plan to buy or upgrade a scroll saw you are faced with the decision of choosing between a 16", 20", 21" etc. machine.

I put this video together so I would have something to point to when I get this question. It shows the limitations that the size of the saw put on what you can cut. There are techniques to help push a saw somewhat past its limits but in general, this video will graphically show you those limits.

This video will only talk about size. I won't get into brand or features other than size. That video would take hours. This one is only six minutes.
