This basket has a special superpower. It requires no glue to stay together. When you put the last wall in place you will have to spring it slightly to get the bottom tabs in their slots. When the tabs fall into the slots this spring action holds the walls in place. I use what I call 50/50 slots on the corners of the walls. Be careful not to over cut these slots. They don't have to be tight but you don't want them loose either.
To be able to assemble the project you will want to use 1/8" thick Baltic Birch plywood. It's strong enough not to break while you make the slight bend during assembly and thin enough to bend.
The interior of the basket is 6.5" X 6.5". It's large enough to hold napkins or condiments. It could also be a small perfume tray or just a catch-all.
Custom Signature Coins: How thin can you go?
Shipments of the custom signature coin orders are going out daily. The lady at the post office cringes when I walk in the door. First class with tracking requires her to label each package with two labels. It takes a while but we have become friends. :)
I have had a few questions about the bit used to inlay the coin. It's called a Forstner bit. You need one that is one inch in diameter. One question came up about how thin the wood can be that the coin is inlaid in. The coins are 1/8" thick. If you look at the picture of the Forstner bit below you will notice a point at the tip of the bit. This tip guides the bit to get the hole started.
This tip will also go deeper than the depth that we need to insert the coin. The length of this tip varies slightly from bit to bit. I have inlaid the coins in 1/4" thick wood but I had to make slight modifications to the bit. I shortened the tip with a file just enough to keep it from poking through the 1/4" thick wood. Sometimes you can strategically place the coin where this poke through does not matter.
Another better option but more expensive is to use two 1" Forstner bits. Completely remove the tip from one of the bits. Use the unmodified bit to start the hole. Once you get just deep enough to have a guide for the modified bit switch to it. Then finish the hole to the desired depth. It's a little work but if you really want to inlay the coin in this wood you can make it work.
The last option I have is more expensive and more difficult. You can use a 1" flat router bit and a plunge router. If you already have these tools you can give this a try. A 1" router bit starts at around $20. It all depends on how bad you want the signature coin is thin wood. I did not have a 1" router bit but I'll pick one and give it a try.

I get requests for custom scroll saw patterns almost daily. I do a few but it's rare. When I like the cause that the pattern will be used for I will occasionally do the pattern. I have no problem if you ask for a custom pattern. Just understand that I may/probably not do it. I have a few people get upset when I don't answer an email. I simply cannot answer all email. That would be my full-time job if I did. Bribes don't help. Well maybe the right bribe would work but the patterns are not worth that much. :( Thanks for understanding.
