This whimsical frame holds a 4" X 6" photo in portrait format. If you need the portrait to be in landscape format just turn everything 90 degrees. In landscape orientation, you can have the infinity heart decoration above or below the photo.

The entire frame is cut from Baltic birch plywood. The decoration is 1/8" thick BB ply and the backer boards are 1/4" thick BB ply.

There are two backer boards. The second backer board can be painted to add a border around the frame. I painted it red to match the photo.

I call this style of decoration infinity. Years ago I saw a scroll saw artist from Italy make several of these decorations. More recently a designer named Alex Fox has been doing several of these styles of patterns. His are stand-alone patterns that are very nice. Alex also does some incredible portrait style pattern that he sells on Etsy.com. Take a minute and check out his store. Here is the link.

Keith Taylor Made It Better:

I received an email from Keith the other day showing me the updates he did to my pivoting jewelry box. I think they add a great deal to the project so I ask his permission to share the changes.

I especially like the cap nut on top of the box, red felt lining and the larger base. Of course, the inlay initial is a great touch. If you have never used the scroll saw of double bevel inlay, you should give it a try.

Hi Steve,

I saw your post on this pattern a little while back and decided to run with it, however, I did change the size of the patterns.

First I glued and clamped 2 pieces of 1” x 6” oak together to get my depth of 2" I cut the cups out to 3.5

the diameter and did the cup bases the same as the lid at 3.5” diameter. I cut the base at 5.5” diameter this

proved to be a little large and would make it a little smaller in the future but I wanted to give the base a routered edge and wanted to be sure to give it enough room for the edge.

Once I cut the cups out of the oak I glued and clamped the bases to the bottom of each cup using ¼”

poplar, now that I have done that next time I do this I will use the same type of oak to match the cups,

however, it turned out ok.

I used walnut for the lid on top and inlaid poplar into the walnut, the initial is H for my daughter Heather, for the cap nut I used walnut cutting a donut and a flat I glued those together. I used a 5/16” dowel and drilled the mounting holes just a hair larger. at this point, I kept the dowel a little longer.

I sanded all of the surfaces down using finer and finer sandpaper. And finished using Minwax Spar

Urethane, I have found that I really like the feel of it and the look of the wood, it has a sheen that makes me happy, I love natural wood grain.

I did however stain the base with a Black cherry stain before using the spar urethane.
