Circus Wagon Scroll Saw Pattern.

Important: This is a large project. If you do not watch the assembly video you will have trouble putting this Circus Wagon together. There are no instructions in the pattern book. The link to the video is below.

I wanted to do a larger pattern for you guys and this is what I have for you. The BigTop Circus is in town with their wild animal show. The two horse-drawn wagon train is almost 45 inches long. The wagon train consists of three wagons and two circus elephants. Each wagon has a wild animal and there are monkeys running around.

Like I mentioned yesterday. This is not a toy. It is not designed for children. It will break if handled roughly. This is a project to show off your scroll saw ability. The good news is that it is designed to be relatively easy to build. I built it in 6.5 hours. I then went back and added a few accessories that probably added another one or two hours. I built it in one session but that is not recommended. I would break it up into three or four sessions for casual cutting.

Most of the parts can be stack cut to speed up the process. I show everything you need to successfully complete the project in the video.

This is the glue used for this project. 18" BB play can be difficult to glue up. It just does not give you much room for clamps so slow drying glue does not work well. This CA glue with activator dries is two seconds so no clamping is necessary.

If you plan to build this project I highly recommend that you pick up a medium CA glue and a bottle of activator.

If you need Baltic birch plywood you can order it from Amazon. My sponsor Heritage Wood Specialties also carry BB ply at a reasonable price.

This is a heads up sent to me from a couple of my readers. Both Rockler and Grizzley Tools have the DeWalt DW788 with light and stand for $499.95/9.  I'm not sure how long these prices will last. This is a very good price for this saw. The Amazon price for this combination is $591.18. That is a large difference. If you are in the market for a nice scroll saw you should check out these deals.

Thanks to the readers who brought htis to my attention.

Faith Cross Scroll Saw Pattern.

This Faith Cross scroll saw pattern is over eight inches tall and seven inches wide.

Thank You:

I hope everyone's Christmas was Merry and safe. I want to thank the hundreds of you who sent me email and snail mail Christmas wishes. They were very thoughtful. I wish I could respond to each one of them but there are not enough hours in the day. Just know that I opened and read all of them.

Updated Pattern DVD:

Another year is coming to an end. That means it's time to update my pattern DVD with the 2018 patterns. I know many of you buy the DVD every year and that is greatly appreciated. I have already started working on the update and hope to have it ready and sent to my distributor within the first two weeks of 2019.

The price of the update will be the same as last year at $20. For those of you not familiar with my DVD let me give you the details.

Every year I compile all the patterns that I designed for the year and add them to the DVD that has all the patterns since the blog began in 2007. The new DVD will have over 2,600 patterns.

These are the same patterns that are in my free online catalog. Why would you want to buy something that is free? Good question. The DVD started from readers requesting a way to have all the patterns offline. Some were afraid the pattern would disappear if I had to shut down the blog. Some people just wanted them available in their club library. Others just liked the convenience of having the patterns searchable more quickly than is possible with the online catalog.

I also hear from many of you that you buy the DVD just to support what I do. Thank you.

When the DVD is ready to ship from my distributor I will let you know here on the blog.

Sneak Peak: Coming Soon.....

Over Christmas I designed this Circus Wagon, It is over 40 inches long and cut entirely from 1/8" thick Baltic birch plywood. Each of the wagons features a different wild animal. The wagon train is followed by two huge circus elephants.

The wagon train is pulled by a two horse team. The ringmaster is at the helm with his dog sitting next to him.

Why did I use 1/8" thick Baltic birch plywood? I was able to cut and assemble this entire project in 6.5 hours. I was able to do that because I designed the pattern to be stack cut. Almost every piece can be cut in multiples. Some pieces can be cut 5 or 6 at once. That really speeds things up. Stack cutting also makes cutting the thin plywood much easier.

This is not designed as a toy. It is a showpiece. I wanted to design a pattern that was large but did not require advanced level technique. Even a scroller with a few weeks under their belt can successfully build this project. I think it will make a nice showpiece to show friends and family what you can do with your scroll saw.

For all you laser cutter folks this is perfect for you also. Everything is 1/8" and will cut great on most lasers.

If I can finish the assembly tutorial I will publish this pattern in tomorrows post. If I don't get that completed it may slip until the weekend.
