Large Oval Valentines Dat Box Scroll Saw Pattern.

Most scroll saw boxes are small. I wanted this Valentine oval box to be larger enough to hold a fair amount of stuff. Maybe you could fill it up with a favorite candy or diamonds. I would go with the diamonds if you want to get out of the dog house.

I have been talking about relief cuts lately so I designed this box to have a nice relief cut rose.
The lid is 1/2" thick so we want the rose to come forward about 1/4". I was able to get that relief with a #3 blade and the table set to ~3 degrees. Make sure you do your test cuts before to commit to the relief cut on the actual lid.

I am including this picture for scale. That is a full-size mug. The oval box will hold a fair amount.

Deadman Style Foot Switch for your Scroll Saw:

If you have been with me for very long then this is old news for you. We get new folks here all the time so this information is for them. I have had two people ask for this lately so here it is again.

I highly recommend a foot switch for your scroll saw. They add safety and ease of use plus they are not expensive. I have one on all my saws. I almost refuse to cut without a foot switch.

There are two styles of foot switch. ON/OFF and Dead Man. A few people use the ON/OFF style of switch but it is generally recommended that you use the Dead Man style.

The ON/OFF style starts the saw when you click it. You can then remove your foot and the saw will continue to run. You have to click it again to stop the saw. I think this defeats the purpose of the switch so I recommend the Dead Man switch.

The Deadman switch starts the saw when you press on the switch. If you remove your foot from the switch the saw will stop.

The foot switch in the picture above if from Amazon. It's under $25. I have seen this same foot switch at Harbor Freight and Woodcraft. If you have either of those stores locally you may be able to find one there.
