This small box is shaped like a Decorated Easter Egg. It is about 5.75 inches long. It is just big enough to add a small sample Easter candy for a nice gift.

The center walls are cut from a single piece of 1-inch thick wood. I kept the wall intentionally thing, like an eggshell. When you drill the starter hole for the cut to separate the walls you will need a 1/16" drill bit.

The starter hole won't be visible from outside the box but you still need to minimize it as much as possible.

To add to the "egg" feel I rounded over the edges of the box top and bottom.

When you cut these single block wall boxes it's best not to apply finish to the inside of the box. It will almost always make then difficult to open after the finish is added. It looks fine only finished on the outside. If it bothers you then just add an oil finish to the inside.

Hector from Wonderland Woodcrafts sent me his latest product to test. It is named the Magnetic Lift & Click. Here is some background.

The DeWalt DW788 scroll saw has always been plagued with a missing feature. The upper arm will not stay in the up position without assistance. This is a major pain when changing blades. Over the years we have used everything from wood block to commercial upgrades.

The Lift & Click is another in the line of aftermarket lifters for the DeWalt saw.

You receive the lifter bar with a magnet attached. A metal plate with two-sided tape and hardware for assembly. It included two pages of instructions that are hardly needed. It's easy to install.

Remove the two upper rear screws.

Use the included hardware to install the Lift & Click bar. Almost done.

Remove the two screws in the black shroud. Line up the metal plate and reinstall the screws.

The two-sided tape helps hold the plate in place so the magnet does not pull on the plate free from the shroud.

The magnet will not hold the full weight of the upper arm. It will slip so you have to make an adjustment. The screw I am pointing to in this picture can be tightened to help hold some of the weight of the arm while the magnet does the rest.

Adjusting this screw has been a point of controversy over the years. Some people have used this screw as a way to hold all the full weight of the upper arm allowing it to stay up. I have always recommended against doing this because I believe you run the risk of damage.

When I saw this I almost decided not to install the Lift & Click. I changed my mind because I played with it enough that I feel confident that the magnet does enough of the work that you only have to tighten to screw a minimal amount. I do not believe it is a problem. That is just an opinion so I will let you be the judge.

If you watch the demonstration video you will see the reason I like this product so much. It is easily the easiest holding device for the DeWalt. It is practically automatic.

I raised and lowered the arm over 50 times and never had to touch the Lift & Click. If that holds up over time it is very impressive. I don't see any obvious wear or failure points.

I can't give you a recommendation from using the Lift & Click for several months but from what I see in limited use I think this is the easiest lifter I have used. The $36.99 price is high but typical for short run products like this. If you have used the DeWalt without a lifter then the cost far outweighs the aggravation of not having it.
