Fantasy Battle Axe and Shield Scroll Saw Pattern.

This fantasy battle axe and shield are cut from 1/4" Baltic birch plywood. The axe is three layers thick and the shield is two layers thick. The back layer of the shield is painted red. I used a sawtooth hanger on the back. The axe is 15" long.

The project is designed as a decoration and not a toy.

A few days ago I published a small box with a dragon on top. I received more email about that pattern than any other pattern this year. I am not real savvy about popular culture but I understand the show Game of Thrones is very big right now. I think that drove the interest in the dragon box.

There was so much interest that I decided to play around with the fantasy theme some more. When it comes to movie genres I am more a fan of science fiction than fantasy. This pattern is not supposed to reflect a specific fantasy show or book. I would not be able to do that if I tried because I don't watch fantasy-themed shows or books. I have never seen Game of Thrones.

If you enjoy this type of project let me know and I'll try to do more in the future.

In Memory of my Brother Garvey Fowler.

My older brother passed away a couple days ago. He was 67 years old. He was a retired truck driver living in Florida. He was also a master pool cue designer and maker. He made cues for some pros and serious amateurs. He was the father of three children. His son tragically passed away in 2014. One daughter still lives in Florida and the other lives in Texas.

To be perfectly honest we were not very close. Not because we didn't get along. He just left home at a very early age and lived in Florida all his adult life. We would talk on the phone but even that slowed as the years went by.

There is nothing more important than family. I wish we would have stayed in contact more often.
Tonight, I am remembering all the late night phone calls talking Kentucky and Florida basketball. Tonight, I am remembering how we would talk about politics. We were on opposite sides of the fence but it was always respectful arguing. Tonight, I am remembering my brother. Rest in peace Garvey.

eTape16 ET16.75-db-RP Digital Tape Measure, 16 Feet, Red

Okay, I admit that I am a sucker for gadgets. If it has a digital readout I tend to want it. To be honest that is probably why I purchased the eTape16. Here is the thing. It works really well. Instant conversion from fractions to decimal or from inches to metric. Memory hold so you don't forget the measurement when you head over to the saw. My favorite feature is the centerline find. Measure, press the center find button and get a digital readout of the exact center of the measurement. It has a feature where you can set it to measure from the front or the back of the body. This makes inside measurement easy without bending the tape. It costs a bit more than other tape measures but if you appreciate the extra features it is worth the money.

  • The original digital tape measure, Measuring made easy the digital way
  • Rugged, durable, weather resistant, made of polycarbonate plastic. Large digital display
  • 3 Memory functions: short term measurement hold. 2 long term memories
  • US/Metric Conversion. Re-zero option
  • Centerline calculation. Inside/Outside measurement

One of my favorite features of the eTape16 is the center find. Measure the item and press the center find button. Get an instant readout of half in fractions, decimals or even convert to metric.
