This unique Valentine's Day project uses an LED strip light to illuminate the edges of the cut acrylic. You often see these cut on a laser but we can do it with the scroll saw.
I use a technique that I call sandwich cutting to cut the acrylic on the scroll saw. I sandwich the acrylic between two sheets of Baltic birch plywood. I wrap the sandwich with tape to hold it together. I then apply the pattern on the top of the tape. I use a #3 blade. The smaller blade seems to give me a smoother cut.

Sandwich cutting acrylic works well for me.
You want to leave the protective sheet on the acrylic until after you complete the cut. It helps prevent scratching of the acrylic.
The base is very simple. Just cut the strip long enough to run the length of the channel. Most strips have a sticky tape backing. I just stick the LED strip centered in the channel. I you think you may want to replace the LED strip if it fails then use screws to attach the bottom. I just glue it together. The LED strips last a long time. I have never had one fail.
How the Scrollsaw Workshop USB and DVD Catalog work.
It has been a while since I explained how the USB and DVD Scrollsaw Workshop Catalogs work. A few folks have had questions so I'm will take a few minutes to explain.
I have been designing scroll saw patterns for this blog since 2007. All of my patterns are freely available in my free online catalog. You do not need to buy either the DVD or USB catalog to have access to the files. The USB and DVD just allow you to have the files when you are not online. Some people were afraid the patterns would go away if I stopped the blog so I made them available.
There are well over 3,000 patterns in the catalog. Because there are so many I include a thumbnail PDF with a picture of every project. This makes looking through the catalog much faster than using the online version. If you want to search for a pattern using a word search then you need to use the online catalog. The USB and DVD catalog are for browsing the project pictures quickly.
Make sure you watch the video tutorial below so you understand how to use the catalog.
