I am showing an optional inlay technique for these coasters. It takes a little work but the technique is not very difficult. We are going to use sawdust and CA glue as the hardener.

You are going to need a cup or two of sawdust so hopefully, you have a shop vac or dust collector that has not been emptied.

The inlay looks a little like cork but it is very hard to the touch.

Cut the pattern and cover the bottom of the board with blue painter's tape to make a reservoir.

Fill the cutouts with fine sawdust. Level off the sawdust. You may need a second layer after the fist layer cures.

Saturate the sawdust with medium CA glue. Let the glue cure for a few minutes then hit it with the activator. Flip the board and carefully remove the tape. Repeat the process for the second side.

You will see smoke once the reaction begins. It will get hot to the touch. Do not breathe the fumes. Work in a well-ventilated area.

Now for the fun part. Sand both sides until the sawdust is flush. If you have gaps then repeat the process of filling in the gaps.

This is an experimental process that I have only just tried once. I believe the inlay is pretty secure and bonded to the board but time will tell. I may experiment with using dye to color the sawdust before I use it for inlay. Let me know if you come up with any creative ideas

If this is not a technique you want to try then an Epoxy inlay or Polymer clay inlay are options. If you are real bold you could try the double bevel scroll saw inlay.
