You could easily edit the pattern to add the player's name to the football instead of the pattern text. Remember that I make sure all the pattern pages in the pdf remain vectors. This allows you to import the pdf into Inkscape and make edits. Here is a link to a video I have showing the process of importing into Inkscape. Inkscape is free but there is a learning curve.
The example below is not included in the pattern book. It will require you to edit the pattern to add the hole and reduce it to size. This is just a suggestion.
Hey laser cutter guys. How about making these key chains for every player on the team? I cut the one below on my 50W laser and it took 1 minute and 30 seconds. I edited the large pattern above to make it under 3 inches tall. Exported as an SVG and straight to the laser.
