For many years I did not use hearing protection while I was in the shop. I suffered minor hearing damage so I eventually wised up and now wear hearing protection anytime I have to tool running.
The scroll saw is generally a pretty quiet woodworking tool. If you have a shop vac running for dust collection then the noise level can go way up. It may not feel uncomfortable but the scroll saw is a long-running tool. Even at 70db, you can experience damage if the usage time is too long. The damage builds up.
