Second Pattern Today
Memorial Day is about a month away here in the US. Memorial Day is one of the more somber holidays but also one that allows us to pay respect to those men and women who died while serving our country. The sacrifice is large for both the soldier and their family.
Oh, the beautiful idea of Siesta. The siesta is a part of Mexican culture. The word "siesta" comes from the Spanish word siesta, which means "rest" or "nap". Siestas are a common tradition in many warm-weather countries, including Mexico, and are often taken after lunch. In Mexico, people take siestas after lunch and no one is bothered because everyone does it.
I have taken siestas my whole adult life. I just did not have a nice word for it like siesta.

One difficult problem I have when designing patterns is being inclusive
of folks who agree or disagree with the subject of the pattern. Religion, politics, guns, hunting, and a few more subjects are all areas of disagreement.
Politics is the most vocal at the moment but I have even had death threats because of religious patterns.
For the most part, I try to follow my own thoughts but I have had one or two patterns over the years where readers have changed my opinion on a subject. The Deer Hunter pattern is one that I had to give extra thought to. The reason for the extra thought was not because it shows hunting but the fact that dogs are used in the pattern.
Yesterday's Deer hunter pattern caused a few email responses. The primary concern was hunting deer with dogs. It is illegal in most states to hunt deer with dogs. Only Florida, Mississippi, Louisiana, Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, and Virginia are states where hunters can use dogs during deer hunting season. Personally, while do not oppose hunting, using dogs to hunt deer is a bit much in my opinion. It just seems a bit unsporting. I am not going to remove the pattern because I don't think it raises to that level. I know some will disagree but that is where I stand on the subject.
By the way, politics is my least used subject for making patterns. In all these years, I think I may have used politics as a subject once or twice. And they were very generic. I find the subject irritating and a little icky. I just don't like the subject enough to make folks mad.
