The Rose for Mother pattern is 10.25" long. All of the parts are 1/4" thick. I strongly recommend that you use Baltic birch plywood for its strength. The letters are not going to be very easy to cut without breaking unless care is taken. Be sure to cut the interior cuts first, then carefully move to the outside cuts. You will need to watch your hand placement so you do not apply too much force on the smaller areas. Once you get the rose glued to its backer, you should be fine.

I have mentioned before that we have a wooded area behind our house. The first couple of years after all the construction, there were no squirrels. This spring, I have started to see squirrels in the trees. I guess they just needed to recover from the construction. We have a fair number of bird species, and we have rabbits. My neighbor and I saw a small bobcat once, but I believe it has moved on. I have heard reports of coyotes in the area, but I have not seen or heard them yet. No deer, but I suspect the wooded area is too small to hold deer.

Having wildlife close to the house is something new for me. I am a lifelong city boy, and being out in the county has me awestruck. I look forward to seeing deer, foxes, and coyotes in the future.

About two weeks ago, I walked out the front door, and a bird flew out of a window planter box close to the door. I did not get a good view of the bird until the next day. It is a dove. Looking closer at the planter box showed two eggs in the nest. Today, the eggs hatched, and we have two baby doves in the nest. The mother dove has either started to trust that we will not harm them, or she is just too tired to fly because she just sits there when we walk by now. The babies look to be healthy, but I am as nervous as if I were the caretaker.
