You know what? You are the #1 Scroll Saw Artist. You should have a trophy to prove it. You may be #1 in the universe, #1 in the world, #1 in your country. #1 in your state, #1 in your town, #1 in your house, or #1 in your mind, but at some place you are #1.
All kidding aside, this trophy might be useful for many family, church, or work events. Just skip cutting the text and buy an engraved plate.
The trophy is close to 11" tall and uses different wood thicknesses. Let me say one thing about the thickness of the wood I used in the images. I set the center section to 1/4", and after looking closely, it should have been 1/2" thick. I did not change the images, but I did note it in the pattern.
The Skeleton Casket Pattern is 15" long and 7.5" wide. An optional funny is that I added a second skeleton pattern where you can make him seated in the basket.
Having women involved in the scroll saw hobby is a big plus for everyone. They bring fresh ideas, different perspectives, and a sense of creativity that really helps the craft grow. It’s easy for a hobby to get stuck in a rut when it’s mostly one group of people, but when women join in, they often introduce new designs, color choices, and project ideas that make the community more diverse and interesting. Plus, it’s great to see families getting involved together — husbands, wives, and even kids — all sharing time in the shop. The more variety we have in the scroll saw world, the stronger and more inspiring it becomes for all of us.
According to research, women purchase twice as many handmade crafts as men. They often have a better understanding of the way a craft item will display in their home. I know that I am generalizing with this statement, but men tend to purchase functional crafts, and women like beautiful crafts. Most crafts are not functional, so women drive the market.
My blog's subscriber list has just over 14% women. The percentage of women in the hobby is difficult to find, but I suspect that it is close to the same number. I would like to see that number grow, but I have been running this blog for 17 years, so the number is not likely to change much.
Now to my point. Guys, if you have a daughter or wife who shows interest in the hobby, please encourage them to give it a try. They may feel awkward about asking you about the hobby, so gently bring it up and just sit back and see if the interest is there. Make sure you mention how safe the scroll saw is to use and give them the required safety equipment if they want to cut something.
