Bracelet for men or women
This pattern book has bracelet patterns for several different sizes. They can be made for a man or a woman. The one in the picture above is about 7/8" thick. You could use different thicknesses of wood to vary the style. The one in the pictures is an initial bracelet. You can put any design you like on the face plate.
For those artists out there you could leave the face plate blank and paint decorations in miniature. Hand cut and painted bracelets would be fantastic sellers at arts and crafts shows.
You will want to sand the bracelet well to remove all the sharp edged and blend the face plate to the bracelet.

Keychain Program Update 1.01
Hello everyone, thanks for the great response to the keychain program. I had many good suggestions to help improve the program. I just uploaded version 1.01. The update includes the following additions.1. Added numbers.
2.Added a space.
3.Added a couple simple graphics. (","= a heart and the ";"= a star)
These were the updates I could add quickly so I thought I would go ahead and release the update now. You can download the update on the blog at the same link as before.

Africa Scroll Saw Pattern

The African elephant is the largest land animal on earth. They are just slightly larger than Asian elephants. African elephants also have larger ears that are shaped somewhat like the continent of Africa. Their ivory tusks caused them to be hunted to dangerously low levels. They are now protected but illegal poaching keeps their populations from growing.

Lest We Forget.
Monday is Memorial Day in the United States. This day is set aside to commemorate the men and women who have died defending our freedom. No man or woman can give more to their country than their life. These brave and proud soldiers were our fathers, mothers, brother, sisters and children. They came from all races, religions and economic backgrounds. One thing they all had in common was that they were Americans.The least we can do as Americans is take a day to honor our fallen heroes. During your day off Monday take a few minutes to reflect on just what these men and women have meant to the life we live today.
Maybe someday the world will be a place where we no longer send our children to fight in wars. It feels like that day is in some distant future that is difficult to see. I have the privilege to talk to people in almost every country in the world because of my blog. Most of us just want live, raise our family and enjoy life. Let's pray the worlds leaders have the strength, wisdom and courage to lead us to a world without the death and destruction war inevitably brings.
This pattern is my humble attempt to honor all the soldiers that have given me the opportunity to be free.

Rotating Picture Frame
This little rotating picture frame looks nice sitting on a desk. You can put a picture on one side and a clock on the other. I like making these little projects like this. It uses up scrap wood out of the shop. It's a project you can knock out pretty quick when you just want to tinker in the shop and make some saw dust.There are a couple of things to consider before you start this project. The wood needs to be at least 7/8" thick so both frames and the 1/4" dowel will all fit. You also need to have a drill press to drill the hole for the dowel. You might be able to get it accurate enough with a hand drill but it will be difficult. The outside frame is 3 1/2" wide. You will either need a long 1/4" drill bit or mark carefully and drill from both sides.
Last, it helps that the wood you use has some character. A nice grain pattern or some spalting can add a lot to a small project like this.

Scroll Saw Village University
Travis over at Scroll Saw Village is producing a video workshop about GIMP. Gimp is a free photo editing software package. The software has many uses but Travis will take you through his technique to produce scroll saw portrait patterns. The workshop is in the forum under the Village University room. So far he has 5 videos produced and I think he has more to come.GIMP like all photo editing software can be intimidating. Just keep in mind that you don't have to learn everything it does just to make portrait patterns.
Go check out the workshop and see if it's something you would like to try your hand at.

Del's Wooden Shop Made Scroll Saw Video
Check out this fantastic but impractical wooden scroll saw. The gentleman in this video is Del. He has been making wooden machines for years. Most of his projects are do nothing machines that are just works of art. This project is a work of art that actually does something.
This machine uses some hand made cage gears and a flywheel. It's operated by pedal power. You could do some scrolling and get your workout all at the same time.

Wood Cube Puzzle Scroll Saw Pattern
Here is a neat little challenge for you guys. This puzzle is easy to make and fun to solve. The pattern book includes complete assembly details. I did not include the solution so you could have the fun of working it also.You need to cut this pattern accurately so it fits together well. Do not try to turn the corners while you cut the pieces. Cut into a corner and then back out and cut in from the other direction. This will make your corners sharp and accurate.
Neither threats nor bribes will make me give out the solution. Okay maybe bribes will break me down. I'm weak. What can I say. :)

Shadow Frames Scroll Saw Pattern
Here is a pattern book for eight different shadow frames. They hold 4" x 6" photographs. They are designed to hold pictures oriented in portrait mode. If this is a popular download I will design a few in landscape mode. Let me know if you can think of more themes for the frames.The pattern is designed to use no mechanical fasteners. The photograph is held in place by the three slats you see in the second picture. After building the prototype above I think I should have raised the top slat and lowered the bottom slat to prevent the picture from rolling in the corners. You might also consider cutting a 4" x 6" piece of black construction paper and glueing it to the back of the picture to prevent back light from showing through.
The project is designed for 1/2" wood. With a little adjustment to the pattern you could use 3/4" thick stock also.

Krylon Spray Stain Review
A few weeks ago I received an email from Andrew Sarnoff. Andrew is the MWKS Krylon eTeam leader. It seems they have decided to seek out online sources to promote their new product. I was asked if I would like to review their new spray wood stain. I don't use much stain in my shop but it sounded interesting so I said I would be happy to give it a try.
I received a case of the Rustic Brown stain a few days ago but I need a project to test the product with. Tonight I came up with the pattern that I thought would look nice stained so it was time for a review video.
If you ever use stain on your wood projects check out this review. In the video I show an actual application of the stain and give my thought on how useful I think it is for scroll saw users.

Anniversary Mini Clock Scroll Saw Pattern
This pattern book includes each anniversary for every 5 years up to 50. It also includes a blank pattern and number templates so you can use it for any year.You could use a mini picture frame instead of the mini clock. This project is for my own 30th anniversary and I plan to change the clock to a picture frame.
I used poplar for this project and finished it with the new Krylon spray stain and gloss acrylic spray finish. I will be posting a video review of the Krylon spray stain soon. It actually works very well

Flying Dutchman Scroll Saw Blades.
I get email all the time asking which scroll saw blades to buy. I have always privately recommended Flying Dutchman blades. If you have been scrolling for some time you probably have your favorite blade you like to use. If you are new to the hobby it can be a challenge to find the blades you like. Either way do yourself a favor and check out www.mikesworkshop.com .I have purchased my blades from Mike for a long time and I can tell you I have never been disappointed with the quality of the product or Mike's service. Sorry if this sounds like an advertisement but it's not. It's just my recommendation to try and help scrollers improve their work and make it more enjoyable. A good saw won't make a cheap blade better but a good blade can make a cheap saw seem better. Upgrade your saw with a Flying Dutchman blade.

Decorative Round Box Scroll Saw Pattern
This little round box is 5" in diameter. It is just a little multipurpose box but to me it looks like a cake on a cake plate. Sounded like a good name to me so I called it Cakebox.I used 1" thick stock for the box walls but you could make it deeper if you like. It's difficult to see in the pictures but the box sits on feet that are tab and slot construction.

Rapid Fire Rubber Band Gun Scroll Saw Pattern
This is a fun project to make. You know what they say about men and their toys. While I was on vacation I saw a single action rubber band gun. I decided to put my spin on the gun and came up with a rapid fire nine shooter.The project is easy to cut but you need to be careful to get a smooth sliding action on the trigger assembly. I have some tips in the video and in the pattern book so study them before you begin.

Marquetry is the craft of covering a structural carcass with pieces of veneer forming decorative patterns, designs or pictures. The technique may be applied to case furniture or even seat furniture, to decorative small objects with smooth, veneerable surfaces or to free-standing pictorial panels appreciated in their own right. Parquetry is very similar in technique to marquetry: in parquetry the pieces of veneer are of simple repeating geometric shapes, forming tiling patterns such as would cover a floor (parquet), or forming basketweave or brickwork patterns, trelliswork and the like. We arrived at Myrtle Beach last night to start our vacation. We were visiting the local tourists stops and I saw this sign. I thought it would make a good scroll saw pattern. I had some down time tonight so I opened Corel Draw and put this pattern together.The weather was great here today but looks like we are in for some rain tonight. My wife got some shopping in and we took in an IMAX 3D movie, The 3D sure has gotten better since the old days of red and blue glasses.
