This is a very simple project. There are a total of four parts with two interior cuts. The gun has a working trigger that is simple to make. It shoots 2-inch rubber bands. Easy enough to be a project you could build with a child.

These are the four parts. I used MDF for the body and Baltic birch plywood for the trigger. I wanted the trigger to be strong.

You can see in this cutaway that I used a simple sliding trigger.

You need to be careful not to glue the trigger in place when you assemble the gun.

After you get it clamped up slide the trigger back and forth while the glue is still not cured. Make adjustments if necessary so the trigger slides free.

Look closely at the rear of the gun. You need to slightly round over the edges so the rubberband releases freely when the trigger is pulled.

Sand the edges for a comfortable grip and you are ready for some target practice.
