Sleigh Candle Holder Scroll Saw Pattern.

Download Below
The pattern comes in two sizes. This is the small version.

I am calling this a candle holder but it can hold anything you like. The candle in the photo is three inches in diameter. The pattern comes in two sizes. The small pattern is ~7.5" long. The large pattern is over 15" long. The large pattern could hold a large flower pot with Christmas flowers.

WEN 3922 Scroll Saw Clamp Fix:

If you have been following my review of the entry-level WEN 3921, and upgraded WEN 3922 then you will remember that the upgraded 3922 had blade clamping issues. Simply put, the blades slip out of the clamps too easily. I do like the new design but not if it won't work. I decided to see if I could solve the problem.

The first step was to remove the upper and lower clamps. With them disassembled I used sandpaper to rough up the clamps at the blade contact point. I sanded cross direction of the length of the blade.

I also noticed that with all the parts removed that there was machine oil on the clamps. That could easily be part of the problem so I cleaned them well.

The arms where the clamp mount, were also covered in machine oil. This is a problem. If you own one of these machines or intend to buy one I would inspect this before I even used the saw.

The next thing I noticed was that the lower clamp was not machined correctly. Where the clamp comes together on the blade was not flat. The bottom arrow point to where the clamp is touching and the top arrow still shows a gap. I larger blade still had some grip but a small blade had no chance to stay clamped.

I used a rotary tool with a tiny grinding disk to flatten out the clamp. I just needed to remove the high spot. You might be able to do this with sandpaper but I did not try. The best solution would be to get a replacement clamp. I have no idea how responsive WEN would be to that request but it might be worth the effort.

In conclusion, I sanded the clamps to roughen them up. I cleaned all the machine oil off of the parts. I flattened the lower clamp to get better contact with the blade. Guess what? The blades stay in the clamps now. The smallest blade I tested was a #3. It worked fine.

I am working on this entry-level saw because I think it is important that new scrollers have the information needed to get the most out of these inexpensive machines.

I still believe that entry-level saws have their place in the market. It is very difficult for a new scroller to convince themselves to spend $500 plus on a tool that they are not sure they will enjoy. $120 spent on an entry-level saw does not have to be money thrown away. With a bit of effort and proper expectations, this WEN 3922 should give acceptable results.

The biggest concern for me is quality control. One saw may come out of the box and work okay. The next saw may have a bad clamp like the saw I bought and not work at all. That is just the way it works on most entry-level tools. Buy from a source you trust with a good return policy.

I hope to eventually do a complete video review of the upgraded WEN 3922. I just want to make sure I can get acceptable results before that happens.
