Both of these patterns are large. The Motorcycle pattern is extra large at just under 16" wide. The car pattern is 12.25" wide. Both patterns call for 1/4" thick wood. Plywood is the best choice for the motorcycle pattern because of its size.
Baltic Birch Plywood.
There are many types of plywood on the market. Some work well on the scroll saw and others perform poorly. The most common problem with plywood is tear-out on the back side of the cut. I have seen this get so bad that the plies will delaminate.
Some folks do use plywood that they get from the big box stores so you can give them a try. Many folks have had good luck with the plywood from Lowes by the name of
RevolutionPly. (Sticker Below) I have not tried this brand but it is not terribly expensive and you can get it in 4' X 8' sheets. They will cut it down to size if you ask.
I personally use Baltic Birch plywood. It is considered one of the most stable plywoods on the market. Unfortunately, it can be difficult to find. I buy mine online from
They sell BB ply in multiple sizes and thicknesses.
Ten 12" X 12" X 1/4" sheets cost $18 and to my house in Indiana, the shipping is $7.11. 50 sheets totals out at $125.81 including shipping.
One thing to remember is that none of these plywoods are actually 1/4" thick. Some patterns may need to be adjusted to the ply size you purchase.

The Birds in a branch pattern is 10" in diameter. It can have an acrylic or wood backer. If you use a colored acrylic backer it will look nice hanging in a window. Use a wood backer if you want to hang it on a wall.
The seahorse pattern should be easy to cut. Some people use Seahorses to decorate their bathrooms.
Twin Oaks Treasures Segmented Scroll Saw Bowl.
Tommy, over at the Twin Oaks Treasures YouTube channel posted a nice video showing the technique for making a segmented bowl on the scroll saw. As always he does a nice job of explaining all the steps/ These are one of the most unique projects made with a scroll saw. Tommy uses a book by Carole Rothman for the pattern. His link to the book on Amazon is in the video's description. It is an awesome book so check it out.
I have a similar style bowl in my pattern catalog.
It is a bit easier to cut if this is your first try.
Here is the link to my pattern if you want to try it.

I have said this before but often do not know which patterns will have many downloads. Cats and dogs normally do pretty well but these are a bit artsy so I will see what happens.
The dogs are 11.5" tall and the cats are 10.25" tall. Both patterns call for 1/2" thick wood but you can easily go with a different thickness. Make sure you change the slot in the base if you use a different thickness of wood.
