Marquetry by Bob Brokaw(GWA)
The Gwinnett Woodworkers club records videos of their meeting and share them on Youtube. They are usually quite long and the camera work suffers a little but there is so much info that it's worth overlooking the flaws. This video is about marquetry. This is the definition. Marquetry (also spelled as marqueterie) is the art and craft of applying pieces of veneer to a structure to form decorative patterns, designs or pictures (from Wikipedia). When you have some extra time take a look at this video. It might lead you into another area of working with your scroll saw.
Thanks goes out to the Gwinnett Woodworkers club for making these videos available for all to learn from.
GWA President Bob Brokaw discusses the processes he has developed to produce fine marquetry using the scroll saw. He first defines the technique, then demonstrates a method of cutting parts to be assembled onto a subtrate panel. He also reviews the creation and tracing of patterns using software and provides techniques for shading to produce a 3D effect. Full Video (1:22:08) Filmed and uploaded in HD.

One thing about my blog that is disappointing for me and exciting at the same time is email. I occasionally receive an email from a reader who is pretty upset because I didn't answer their earlier email. I know I disappoint some people because they get overlooked. The reason is simple. One person can not possibly read and respond to all the email I receive. It's in the hundreds a week. The good side of this is that it means the blog is popular. The bad side is I really want to help everyone who has questions.
For the most part I do read or at least scan every email. The hard part is responding. To respond in any meaningful way takes several minutes at least. I could easily spend two or more hours a day on email. Unfortunately I only have a couple hours a day total to design the daily patterns and maintain the blog. If you have followed the blog for long you know I have trouble with my writing skills. That makes writing email painfully slow for me.
I like receiving lots of email because it keeps me informed on what is working well and what needs improvement. Please keep the email coming just understand you may not get a response. I wish that were not the case but just keeping it honest.

Do you feel lucky punk?
My favorite line from all the Dirty Harry movies goes like this:
Callahan:
I know what you're thinking. "Did he fire six shots or only five?" Well, to tell you the truth, in all this excitement I kind of lost track myself. But being as this is a .44 Magnum, the most powerful handgun in the world, and would blow your head clean off, you've got to ask yourself one question: Do I feel lucky? Well, do ya, punk?
Those were the good old days before everyone told us watching random senseless violence would make us grow up to be cold blooded psycho killers. Somehow we knew they were just movies.

Large Carriage Clock.
Woodcraft has a 15% off on their clock inserts until November 21, 2012.
I have made very good progress on the orders for the custom Christmas ornament patterns this weekend. I feel like I have made good enough progress to start accepting more orders. If you would like to place an order the "Order Form" link is below. For those of you not familiar with this offer here are the details.
There are two styles as shown in the picture below. One has the year and one does not. For $5 I will create 5 custom ornament patterns for you. Just submit the names and I'll create the patterns and email them to you. You will not pay until you have received the patterns and are completely satisfied. You can submit as many names as you need for an additional $1 per name. The order form accepts 20 names. If you need more than 20 just submit another form. There is a 5 name minimum.
You will be able to pay right from the email I send you with a credit card or submit payment by snail mail. Credit card payments are processed securely through Paypal. I never see your credit card number. You do not need a Paypal account to pay through Paypal.
Please understand that these patterns take a while for me to make. I am trying my best to keep under a two week deadline but I slipped a little. To make sure you have time to complete the ornaments in time for Christmas order as soon as possible.

Election Day. Go vote.
Today is the Presidential election in the U.S. It's an important day for everyone to show their citizenship. Each vote means more than a vote for the candidate. It's a vote for freedom. It's a vote for all the men and women who have fought to give us this opportunity to choose. Vote with your heart and your mind. Vote with respect for the rights of others to disagree. Your vote only counts if you cast it. Vote.

Sometime a simple pattern is enough. You can cut this little praying angel in just a few minutes from scraps of wood. Set it on the mantle as is or with a candle behind it.
