This box has built-in hinges. These can be tricky to make work smoothly. Sometimes it helps to carve the corners off the hinge pin. Go slow and don't remove too much. Another issue with these interlocking lids is ensuring the case is square. If they are not square the lids will not seat easily.
Another tip is to cut the case and the lid without the fretwork. Do a test fit. Then if everything works well go back and cut the fretwork. Leave the pattern on the lid and only remove the pattern from the pin for the test fit.
You can also make this pattern much easier by eliminating the weave pattern from the lid. Simply cut the center flower to save quite a bit of cut time.
Exagerated hinge pin. See why you may need to cut down the edges to round the pin so it fits in the hinge hole well. If it fits without rounding then that will work fine.

This lantern will hold up to a four-inch diameter candle. It is designed to sit over the candle. The lantern is over 13" tall. All the parts are 1/4" thick. As always, I recommend an electric candle for safety.
Bob's Home Woodshop Cuts My Noel Pattern.
I wanted to share Bob's video of my Noel Animals Pattern. He does a nice job of explaining the basic techniques for someone new to the scroll saw. This is a beginner project. It is cut from 3/4" thick wood and has very few interior cuts. It does have some veining that can be tricky for a new scroller so just go slow. When you back the blade out of the veins remember to keep the saw running. Thanks Bob.

Think Safety
Remember to keep the safety of yourself and others in your work shop in your thoughts at all times. Always wear eye and ear protection. Follow all the manufactures warnings that came with your power tools. If I demonstrate something on this web site that you don't feel is safe, don't do it. Your safety is your responsibility. Fingers are handy things, try to keep all of them.
