Scrollsaw Workshop Blog Changes and Notes.
For example I did a post on using polymer clay for inlay in scroll saw projects. A quick search for "polymer clay" will take you back to May 16, 2010. There you will find details and a video on the technique.
In the past using this search bar was complicated by the fact that when you clicked on the results links it would take you to the top of the blog. From there you had to scroll down several screens to find the post.
I have made changes to the layout of the blog. The daily content is now closer to the top of the page. I moved all the other items below the daily content. The free software, Catalog DVD and other items are now below the daily content. I hope this will make the blog easier to read.
I don't want to see the other content get lost below the fold so I plan to incorporate these items in with the blog posts from time to time. Some of you long time readers may get tired of seeing these in the posts but they are important for me. The blog is funded from just a few sources. Donations(the main source of income for the blog), Pattern catalog DVD, Jigsaw puzzle pattern book and ads.
While these certainly don't make me rich they do allow me to fund the blog and keep me motivated to make it useful and enjoyable.
Hope you like the changes. Comments welcome.

Scroll Saw Cottage Birdhouse.
It should be painted or coated with a durable finish for outdoor use. I used eyelet screws to attach chain for hanging the house. Use the method that works best for your location to mount or hang the birdhouse.

DW788 Tear Down Video.
Even if you don't plan to service your own saw it's still an interesting watch. I'm a service engineer myself so maybe I just like this kind of stuff.
I didn't have time tonight to get Karl's permission to embed the video so I'm just going to link to it on his Youtube channel. Click the link below to watch the video.

2013 Woodworking and Crafts Scroll Saw Buyers Guide.
Bob lists the three Editors Choice picks for different price ranges. His picks for under $200 and $200 to $600 are solid picks. The over $600 selection gets really tough but his choice of the Excalibur EX21 won't get too much argument from me. If you are just getting started in the hobby this is an invaluable aid for making you first purchase. If you are looking to upgrade it lets you compare you choices in one convenient location. Check it out.
You might also want to consider a subscription to the magazine. The magazine is first class and put together by people who care about the hobby. Nice people also.

Scotty McCreery Concert.
We have been American Idol fans for years. I think I'm the only guy I know who actually admits to being a fan of the show. I just like to be entertained. Carrie Underwood and Scotty are our two favorite Idol winners.
The concert was at the Horseshoe Casino in Indiana. As you can tell from the picture we had good seats. We were dead center first row about two feet from the stage. Scotty played for a solid hour and a half. He sang several songs from his latest album. He played a couple songs slated for his next album. One of my favorite parts of the show was when he covered several legends hits including Hank Williams Sr, Johnny Cash and Elvis.
For such a young artist he is very mature on stage. He had the audience standing and very much into the show.
Hope I didn't bore you all too much with the non scroll saw post but I'm sitting in the Casino hotel trying not to go lose any more money in the slots. They only got me for about $70 and I don't want to give them any more:)

Fast way to repair broken fretwork.
You know the feeling. You just spent hours cutting your scroll saw project and it breaks. Either you drop it or it just breaks at a weak spot. It happens to everyone sooner or later. Don't worry it can almost always be repaired.
The first attempt most scrollers make is to use yellow wood glue to repair the break. It works but has limitations. Yellow wood glue has a long set time. Most of the time when fretwork breaks it's difficult to clamp the pieces while the glue sets. You have to hold it in place for several minutes and hope the bond is good enough. Many times with a little handling it will break again.
A better method is to use CA glue(Super Glue). I highly recommend purchasing a CA glue that is designed specifically for wood. I like the Titebond Instand Bond wood adhesive and activator. It set in seconds and the bond is better than yellow wood glue. In most cases after you sand the broken area the break will be next to invisible.
Check out the video above to see how well this product works.

Segmentation Bird Scroll Saw Pattern.
Intarsia is usually made from different species of woods. The pieces are cut to fit together like a puzzle. The pieces are often shaped to give an almost 3d effect. Different species with contrasting colors and grains give the assembled picture greater depth than most segmented pictures.
This pattern is segmentation. Because of the minimal shaping it is much faster to make than most Intarsia pictures.
You can frame this pattern like I did or use it to decorate a box lid.
The pattern book has the instructions you need to complete the project.
