Bear Woods Promos and Giveaway:
Stephen from Bear Woods ask me to let everyone know about a couple of offers and some information.
First is the important information. As we all know, prices are going up on just about everything. Tools are no exception. The manufacturers are raising prices because their expenses are up. They are also passing along much higher costs of shipping.
Stephen has been informed of these prices increases coming soon for his Pegas scroll saw. He has about 30 saws in inventory that he can sell now at the current price. If you have been looking to upgrade to the Pegas scroll saw, now is the time. Once these saws in inventory are gone the price will be going up. I don't know how much but shipping increases alone are significant.
They also have a current promotion going on.
Last but not least is a great giveaway. Don't miss out on free money.

Do you need a magnifier work light on your scroll saw?
This is a question that comes to my email a few times a year. Like so many questions the answer is "It depends". I have magnifier work lights on all of my scroll saws. I use the lamp 100% of the time but I use the magnifier lens only occasionally. I know many scrollers who use the magnifier 100% of the time. So what is the difference?
Obviously, people with poor vision can benefit from a magnified pattern line. There is more to it than eyesight though. Some guys who scroll a lot use the magnifier to be more accurate with their cuts. They often are fast scrollers and the extra magnification helps them see the line better while the blade is cutting at a fast pace. This can be very important when you have deadlines to get products out to customers.
I would say that most scrollers can get away without the magnifier work light. You do have to have good light but the magnifying lens is something you just have to use for a while to see if it is something you prefer. I have spoken with scrollers who hate using the magnifier.
These lamps come in a wide range of prices. I would probably not buy one of the expensive ones until you have had a chance to see if you will use it. Harbor freight sells a cheap one for around $40. It is not terrible. The lens is a bit distorted on the edges but the middle of the lens is quite clear and focused. The light is fluorescent but is bright.
If you find that you like the magnifier then
Seyco.com and
Bearwood.com both sell nice lights. They have better lenses and a choice of LED or fluorescent lights.
