Please consider using an Electric candle for safety:
This pattern can be cut from plywood that is 12" X 12" X 1/4". It is what I call a single-board pattern. Use a 1/6" drill bit or smaller to drill the entry holes. The smaller the better. Cut the individual rings. Rotate every other ring as shown in the pattern.
The Build a Family pattern includes babies, children, teens, and mom/dad. The base can be lengthened to accommodate the family.
Creating the perfect project is a high standard. I have folks send me photos of their projects and they almost always point out the "errors" they see. Some even tell me they have never shown their work because they don't think it is good enough. Having high standards is okay to a point but don't let that stop you from showing your work. You are missing out on the enjoyment of sharing your skill.
Handcrafts are not supposed to look machine-made. Small miscuts just add to the charm. That does not mean being sloppy. Many of the things you see the viewer never even notices. Just do your best and that is good enough.
You will occasionally run into someone who is overly critical and judgemental. If you are feeling in the mood to send a bit of funny feedback their way try this.
"Ah, it seems my craft has inspired your inner Simon Cowell! Don't worry, I'm not auditioning for 'Crafting Idol.' I'm just enjoying the process and spreading a little handmade happiness."
Or, if you want to be a bit kinder.
"Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts on my craft project. While I understand that everyone has their own perspective, I'm grateful for your feedback as it provides an opportunity for me to grow and improve. Your input encourages me to continue pursuing my passion for creativity, and I appreciate your honesty in sharing your thoughts."
That last one sounds like a load of you-know-what, but I bet it stops them from continuing the judgment. 😁
Hobbies are all about having fun and relaxing. Don't let the inner voice stop you from sharing that fun with others.
