"I like a good love story. Especially ours.". This is a pattern you can give your sweetheart on Valentines Day. The floral piece of this pattern was part of an original graphic from... Designed by Doodle_Flower / Freepik. I modified it for inclusion in this pattern.
Yesterday's pattern was a little strange for some folks(my wife included). I was trying to be witty but my wit weren't willy wise. See what I mean. A few thought that if I were trying to promote reading a book, "Don't be stupid, read a book." could be too harsh. I added the above to the original pattern book so you can choose a more appropriate wording if you want to use this in a library or class room. You can download it again from this link. It is also in the online pattern catalog.
Designing patterns everyday has some hazards. :) A pattern that sounds funny one night may look completely different after a good nights sleep. If you would like the updated version you can download it now.

I'm either a little late or very early for National Book Month(October). I was reading an article about book sales and this pattern came to mind. I am a slow reader so I have not read as many books as I would like. Apparently I'm not alone because book sales have declined over the last few years.
By the way, I corrected the pattern after I made the image above to include the punctuation marks.
Fortunately I am an Audible book subscriber and have gone through about 50 audio books. My favorite reads over the last couple years are Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand. It is the biography of Louis Zamperini. Louis was an Olympic track star. The book details his incredible survival during WWII. It is one of the most inspirational stories I have ever read. If you enjoy biographies this one is worth the read.
My number one favorite was The Martian by Andy Weir. This fictional book has the main character stranded on mars after a failed mission. He has to figure out how to survive for a year while a rescue mission is planned. The book is full of accurate science with just enough fantasy to keep it exciting. Many of the NASA engineers spoke out on the book saying how accurate the science was to real life. They also made a movie from the book staring Matt Damon. The movie was okay but the book was great.

One of my readers, Mike, likes to send me pictures of projects he completes from my patterns. Often the same day I publish them. Mike has a trick up his sleeve. He cuts the patterns with a laser. Of course he often has to modify the pattern for the laser to be able to cut it. In the picture below of the smart phone stand, he converted the project to 1/8" thick and doubled it up where necessary. I like that way he changed the base to stair step. It looks better than my original design.
I just found out the other day that a local library has a creative lab. It has a laser cutter, 3d printer and other machines available to the public for free. You get three hours per session and if no one has the time after you, you can just keep working. I will have to attend two classes but then I can schedule some time. The laser cutter/engraver uses the same software I use to design my patterns. CorelDraw. The first class they will teach me how to use the software.:) I have used CorelDraw everyday for almost ten years. It will be fun to learn the differences between designing for a scroll saw and a laser cutter. I have many subscribers who use my patterns with laser cutters so I want to have a real world understanding of the design process. My first class is tomorrow, I'll let you know how it goes.

Remember to keep the safety of yourself and others in your work shop in your thoughts at all times. Always wear eye and ear protection. Follow all the manufactures warnings that came with your power tools. If I demonstrate something on this web site that you don't feel is safe, don't do it. Your safety is your responsibility.
