I saw one of these stand/cutting boards online and it looked like a neat idea. The project is cut from 3/4" thick wood. When not used as a stand there is enough room for a small cutting area.
Consider adding some wooden dowels to the shelf joint for increased strength.
Yes, you can buy thin scroll saw ready boards on Amazon, Etsy, and Ebay.
Many scroll saw users have difficulty finding thin boards for scroll saw projects. The big box stores carry very limited stock in thin dimensions. If you do not have the tools to dimension rough lumber then you may be left with ordering boards online.
There are a few sources that are sometimes overlooked. Amazon.com, Etsy.com, and Ebay.com, all have sellers providing thin boards in wider widths. I have purchased from all of these sources with good results. Your mileage may vary.
I typically use these keywords when searching these sites. "thin lumber", "1/4" thick boards" and "craft boards". When you look at the search results read very carefully the description. It should show the dimensions and quantity of the boards that will be shipped.
Pay close attention to the cost of shipping. Some sellers ship in flat-rate boxes and the shipping cost can be reasonable.
One consideration when purchasing thin lumber is movement. Lumber is a natural material and it can move(twist, warp) when subjected to different environments. If the seller wraps the boards in plastic that helps. When the package arrives, examine the boards then wrap them back up for storage. You will receive some boards that have moved a little. You will not always receive 100%, flat boards. It is just the nature of the material. Some sellers will give replacements if the movement is extreme so that is a question to ask first. They will generally have a number of millimeters that the board moves for replacement.
My primary source for Baltic birch plywood is https://ocoochhardwoods.com/. Their prices have stayed pretty good since the disruption from the pandemic and war. A box of ten, 1/4" X 12" X 12" sheets runs $20 ($2 a board), and shipping to Indiana is a little over $7. They also sell project-ready hardwood boards. A 1/4" X 8" X 24" cherry board is $11 plus shipping. They are extremely reliable shippers. I have never been disappointed in their service.
