Brief History of Jousting:
Jousting, a quintessential medieval sport, emerged in Europe around the 11th century. Initially conceived as a military training exercise to hone knights' combat skills, it soon evolved into a celebrated tournament spectacle. One of the earliest recorded instances of jousting dates back to the 11th century in France, where it was part of festive gatherings. Over time, jousting gained popularity across Europe, with notable tournaments hosted by monarchs such as King Henry II of England in the 12th century and King Edward III in the 14th century. Jousting reached its zenith during the late Middle Ages and Renaissance, becoming not just a display of martial prowess but also a symbol of chivalry and honor. However, with the decline of knighthood and the advent of gunpowder, jousting gradually faded from prominence, though it persists today as a revered tradition in historical reenactments and medieval-themed events. And yes, even in the realm of jousting, sometimes it's all about the "knight" moves! Source: ChatGPT I was going to include some modern-day jousting videos but they are too violent so I won't include them.
Each one of these jousting horses is almost 10" long. They are cut from 1/4" thick wood. The bases are 1/2" thick to add stability. Below is my laser test cut spray-painted metallic gold. For the test cut I reduced the pattern by 50% in size and used 1/8" thick plywood.
