This is a DIY sanding brush that I call the Fuzzy Buster. Before you start emailing me with all the different methods of removing the fuzzies, know that I am just presenting this as another tool to try. I have used nearly every method from burning to sanding mops. The Fuzzy Buster is cheap and easy. It also works okay.
When you cut with your scroll saw the backside of the board will have some tear-out. In scroll saw speak we call this the fuzzies. They can be annoying to sand off because they hide down in the fretwork. There are many different ways to remove the fuzzies and the Fuzzy Buster is just another tool to add to your toolbox.
The Fuzzy Buster is made up of two small sheets of sandpaper glued back to back. Slits are then cut with an Exacto knife to make flaps.
The standing flaps are clamped into the brush handle and swept across the back of the project.
You can experiment with the length and width of the flaps. I found that 1/8" flaps work faster but the 1/6" flaps are more gentle and get inside small cutouts easier. Just make a few and see what works best for you.
Maslow 4' X 8' CNC for $500. Really?
Let me start by saying that this is not a review or an endorsement. I do not own the Maslow CNC. I have been following this tool from its early stages and it looks interesting. A full size 4' X 8' CNC machine for $500. It mounts vertically so it requires less space than a table CNC. The hardware is very minimalistic but I have seen many interesting projects come off of this CNC.
The reviews have been mixed but I think that is expected for something this unusual. It is chain and gravity controlled. My experience tells me that this tool will require some tinkering and fine-tuning but for $500 there is nothing else like this on the market. There are several videos on YouTube showing the Maslow in action.
I like to keep up with interesting new tools and I thought some of you may enjoy seeing this Maslow CNC. It is obviously not for everyone but for people who like to tinker this might be right up your alley.
