Half Marathon Plaques.

These plaques are for all the long distance runners. Completing a half marathon is quite an achievement. Celebrate the run with a plaque.

Rose Trivet wit Initials. 26 patterns plus a blank.

This pattern book has this trivet with all 26 letters plus one without the initial. The trivet is 6.25 inches. Enlarge it to the size you need. Set the print dialog to 120 percent for a trivet that is about 8 inches. I used 3/8" stick on rubber feet on the bottom. The wood was 1/2" thick. I think this project needs to be cut from 1/2" thick wood. 3/4" just looked to thick.

I used Aspen wood for this project. This was the first time I had ever cut Aspen. It is a bland wood without much character but is cuts okay. It did have quite a bit of tear-out even with a scroll reverse blade though. Because it is so light colored it will make a nice contrast wood when used with walnut or other darker species.

Cats Wall Hanging Scroll Saw Pattern.

Each piece of the group of four cat wall hangings are seven inches wide. You can hang them as a group or individually.

I get questions asking how to hang wooden pieces on the wall. I like to use a keyhole bit and a router to cut a recess in the back of projects. They can be used to cut single keyhole slots, double slots and end to end slots. They are not the easiest bits to use but the results are great. I highly recommend that you add one to your tool box.

They can be used freehand with a router but the results will be shaky. If you have a router table it's easy to set up a jig to make perfect cuts. I have been thinking about designing a jig to use the keyhole bit with a hand held trim router. I think that will be a first of the year project. Any suggestions?

If you use the slot in the first picture it needs to be centered. If the projects is evenly weighted this works okay. The second slot is also centered but it gives to the chance to balance the project. The third option is the easiest to cut and balance but you see the slot on the edges so it only works with some projects.

I hope all of you have a safe and happy Christmas. It's been another busy and exciting holiday season here at the Scrollsaw Workshop. I want to thank all of you for following my blog. After eight years and thousands of posts I'm still having fun.

I will probably take a couple days off to enjoy being with family. I'll be back after the weekend and we can countdown to the start of another year. Everyone be safe. Merry Christmas. 

Cats and Birds in a Window Scroll Saw Pattern.

'Twas the night before Christmas when all through the shop the scroll saw was silent not even a pop. The gifts are all ready and under the tree. The blades are all broken except my #3.
I made every gift from very nice wood. Sanding and sanding until it felt good.

The presents were all made with much love and care, but I still can't get the saw dust out of my hair.
I hope you don't see all the little mistakes. I tried to cut on the line but I had a few breaks.
My work is not perfect I know that is true. I made them by hand because I love you!

Welcome Scroll Saw Pattern with embellishments.

I have tried to make this embellishment as strong as possible but it will be a challenge to cut.  Avoid open grained woods such as Red Oak. Gluing the final cut to a backer board will help prevent breakage.

Christmas is just around the corner now. I know all you elves are spending countless hours in your shops finishing up holidays gifts. Remember to follow all the safe practices that your tools demand. It's tempting to cut corners when you are under a tight time line. Take your time and do it right.

RollerMaze Game Scroll Saw Pattern.

This is a fun little project you make quick. It is made from 1/2" thick Baltic Birch Plywood. The maze is not too Difficult but you can make it harder. Just make the groove narrower.

I used 1/2" diameter steel balls from Amazon. Here is the link for the balls.

Vintage Clip Art to a Scroll Saw Pattern.

I found these great pieces of vintage clip art in a public domain directory. I scanned them in and cleaned them up as much as possible. I tried to make sure every inside cut was large enough for at least a #1 blade. I have not test cut these so you may have to make a few modifications as you go but I think it should go okay.
