I put together a group of twenty-two Christmas ornament designs. They are a mix of fretwork and Christmas-themed patterns. Ornaments can be cut from 1/4" thick Baltic birch, but they look especially nice when cut from beautiful hardwoods.
The second pattern is Santa ready to deliver his toys. This is a large pattern. Santa stands at 15.5" tall. It will take some study and thoughtful cuts on a 16" scroll saw. It can be done, but you may need to use a spiral blade for a few of the cuts. I am not good with spirals, so I generally stay with a flat blade unless I have no other options.
I sit at the scroll saw 99% of the time. Larger patterns are the exception. I find it easier to stand when cutting large boards. Some people fatigue quickly when standing, and with a large board, that can make it an even bigger issue. I am one of those people, so I just take breaks. Unless you have limited time its better to take a break and come back to the cut later. This pattern calls for a 3/4" board for the front layer. You can make the cut easier if you use 1/4" for both layers.

The Double Basket pattern will be a challenge. There are close to 230 interior cuts, and some of the cuts will leave thin sections. Go slow and cut carefully, and you should be fine. Remember that glue is your friend.
The Butterfly pattern is just a single layer of 1/4" thick wood. I am showing a light red wash on the illustration piece. The nice thing about Butterflies and flowers is that you can use any color you like for the wash. If you are a skilled painter, then just go to town and make it beautiful.
