This pattern idea was submitted by Tom Yocom. Tom emailed me with this idea. He had made one using my Key Fob pattern generator software and wanted to show me the results. I guess Tom and I both like corny because I thought it would make a funny gag gift.
I ask Tom if I could make a pattern and share it with anyone who likes corny as much as we do. I have a name for this kind of humor. I call it "Grandpa Funny". It falls in the same category as "Pull my finger", and "Your shoe is untied", with a tap on the chin when you look down.
The project is made from 1/8" thick Baltic birch plywood and two pennies. The pennies are trapped inside the key fob and slide back and forth.
To get a smooth action with not sticking you want to sand the thickness of the middle layer until it is just proud of the penny. If you leave it 1/8" thick the pennies will ride up on top of each other.
When you glue the pieces together make sure you watch the orientation of the words. You want them to be read right side up when you flip the key fob over.

I am curious. Do any of you use a method to remember which blade is in your saw. I use such a small number of blades that it is pretty easy for me to know. I use # #5 or #3 95% of the time. If you use more than a few blades something like this could be useful.
Thanks for sharing Al.
Hey, this was a good day. Both parts of today's post were ideas from someone other than me. I like being lazy. Thanks, Tom and Al.
