Scroll Sawing tip:
Blade tensioning is a question I often get in my email inbox. This is one of the first things a new scroller needs to learn about technique. Proper blade tension is a matter of feel. With parctice you will soon develop the feel of a properly tensioned blade. A blade that is tensioned too loose will drift when you try to follow the line of your pattern. You will often hear a noise from your saw that you will eventually recognize as a loose blade. A blade the is over tensioned will break prematurely and sometimes slip in the blade holder. As you would expect thicker blades can handle more tension than thinner blades.
You will often see experienced scrollers pluck the tensioned blade. Like tuning a guitar you will develop an ear for how a proper tensioned blade sounds.

Think Safety
Remember to keep the safety of yourself and others in your work shop in your thoughts at all times. Always wear eye and ear protection. Follow all the manufactures warnings that came with your power tools. If I demonstrate something on this web site that you don't feel is safe, don't do it. Your safety is your responsibility. Fingers are handy things, try to keep all of them.
