The Tyrannosaurus rex, often called T. rex, is one of the most famous dinosaurs and lived during the Late Cretaceous period, around 68 to 66 million years ago. It was an enormous predator, measuring up to 40 feet long and weighing as much as 9 tons. With its massive skull, powerful jaws, and teeth that could reach lengths of up to 12 inches, T. rex was exceptionally equipped for hunting and scavenging. Despite its fearsome reputation, it had relatively short arms, which remain a subject of debate among scientists regarding their exact function.
T. rex fossils have primarily been discovered in North America, particularly in states such as Montana, Wyoming, and South Dakota. Recent studies suggest that this dinosaur had remarkable sensory abilities, including keen eyesight and a strong sense of smell, which would have been crucial for tracking prey. Although traditionally depicted as solitary hunters, some paleontologists propose that T. rex might have lived and hunted in groups, a behavior that would significantly enhance its effectiveness as a predator.
