I designed these scissors as a gift you could give to someone who loves to sew. My wife enjoys sewing so I added her name to the scissors to personalize them. The included pattern says "Love(heart graphic) To Sew). You can see it below in the simulated picture.
I also included a blank pattern so you could personalize it for the person you give it to. There is not a lot of room for a long name. You may need to use initials instead.
The scissors are cut from 1/4" maple and 1/8" mystery wood. When you add the pivot dowel and the washers you want the blade to be snug together but not so tight that they won't move easily. They need to be close together for them to actually cut paper. Do not sand the cutting edges as you are finishing the project. They won't cut unless you leave them sharp.
These are obviously not intended to be used as actual scissors but it is cool to show that they do cut paper when you give the gift.
It is a little difficult to tell how large these scissors in the photograph so I included a mouse to show the scale. The scissors are large at just under a foot long.
This is the actual pattern included in the pdf.

Here is an email I received from Paul.
Hi Steve, I love the bear silhouette but I have to let you know - those aren't bear prints, it's a dog print (wolf, coyote). Bears have 5 toes. Thanks for all you do. You're a real inspiration! Paul
I have to dispute Pauls's accusation. I took the print directly from the bear in the picture below.
Brown Bear.
I am available for bear sightseeing tours. I saw a pack of bears just the other day.
