This divided utility box is about 4" tall and 7.5" in diameter. The box is large enough for small craft tools or sewing supplies.
As you can tell from the images I did not cut this pattern. I simply simulated it in Blender. Many of my patterns are simple enough that simulating them is fine because I know they will work. This pattern is borderline and I would normally have test cut the pattern. This time of year I get crazy busy with the blog so I cheated on this pattern and did not do a full test cut.
My concern was if the wall pieces were the correct width to fit together with little to no gap. To put my mind at ease, I cut just the section I needed to test. (See animation). As you can see the fit was fine.
To make a long story short, I believe this pattern will work as designed but don't commit $20 a board foot wood to this pattern until you are comfortable that it works. Not that a utility basket requires expensive material but you get the point.
Speaking of being crazy busy, thank you for all the Personalized Christmas Ornament pattern orders. As of 3:24am 9/16/2022, I am caught up. If you have a current order you should have it in the email. If you don't see it then please check your spam folder. If they are not there then give me a shout and I will resend it.
DIY with Dave Explains the Financials of Lumber Prices:
This video only roughly relates to the prices of the boards we buy for our scroll saw projects but it is still interesting. Dave does a really nice job of explaining the reasons why prices don't always follow the lumberyard expenses. This is mostly supply and demand theory but with some exceptions.
It is easy to blame price gouging for high prices when lumber yard expenses are decreasing but it is often just price balancing at the retail level. Of course, they only price balance when it is to their benefit but that is capitalism at its finest.
If you find this type of stuff interesting then watch the video. It is about ten minutes long.
