The under desk storage pattern may have limited use but I designed it for me and thought some of you may be able to use it also. I am going to use it in my shop. It is an under-desk/table/shelf storage system. It is cut from 1/2" thick wood to keep the weight down. The slot is adjustable so it can fit different thicknesses of the desktop. The center shelf is optional if you need just one large space.
I would not recommend adding too many pounds on the shelf but small tools/supplies should be okay.
I did include optional corner stiffener patterns if you think you need them. You can see them below highlighted in red.
The Cat and Mouse project is ten inches tall and ten inches long. The pattern calls for 1/2" thick wood. It has five layers for the 3D look.
Tearout When Cutting Plywood
Plywood comes in many different specifications. Baltic Birch is one of the best while some plywood you buy at big box stores can produce poor cuts. That's not a bad thing because they are used for different purposes. The problem for us scrollers is that high-quality ply is both expensive and less available in many locations.
One issue with construction grade ply is tear-out on the back side of the cut. Sometimes you can clean up the cut with sanding but other times it is so bad that you need more than sanding.
Blue Painter's tape can help. I will often use blue tape on both the front and back of the board. Most of the time you can get away with only taping the back to reduce the tear-out and save a few pennies. Blue Painter's tape is not cheap so just use what you need to help with the problem. Here is an Amazon affiliate link to what I buy. It is 1.88" by 180 feet long. There are six rolls in the purchase for $36.17. I have found that you can buy it locally sometimes for less but I buy all my business supplies on Amazon just because it is so easy to keep my taxes straight.
so do a test cut before you take on a big project.
