Click the image below to see the demographics of my blog. Somewhere around 30,000 people either visit my blog or newsletter daily. So demographics are based on reasonable numbers to believe they are accurate. I am excited to see that close to 20% of those visits are from women. I am disappointed that the age levels exclude so many younger folks. It is actually good news for me personally because the 65+ group are way more generous with donations but we need the younger group for the hobby to grow.
I'm 66 so I won't be able to run the blog for many more years but I would hate to see the hobby slowly decline. We need to try and spread the word that the scroll saw is a very valuable tool and fun to use. I guess the younger crowd is more interested in digital equipment but the scroll saw offers many benefits over those digital tools. About the only thing that digital tools have over the scroll saw is that you eliminate the physical work. You still need to prep the patterns but then the digital tool is on it's own. While that has it's advantages the physical hands on work is way more fun and calming to me. Turn on a little music and zone out.
If you have the opportunity to help a younger person get involved in the hobby please consider helping.
