Draw/Discard Card Caddy Scroll Saw Pattern

Download Below

I received an email from Roger Cramer yesterday. He shared a story about his large family and their love of card games. They play card games that use a Draw/Discard pile. Some of the smaller family members could not easily reach the center of their large table to draw or discard a card.

Roger came up with a card caddy to hold both the draw pile and the discard pile. The caddy can easily be moved from player to player and no more reaching.

I thought this was a great idea. Even for games where reach is not a concern, the piles stay nice and neat. You can easily walk away from the game without worrying about the piles getting messed up.

Here is Roger's original design. He allowed me to make a few changes and share it with anyone who would like it. You will see that I only made small changes. I added slots and tabs for easier assembly. I changed the way the dowel handle is attached and I slightly changed the pips.

Thanks, Roger. I like this project a lot. It solves a real problem and is super simple to build.

DIY Scroll Saw Stand by Steve Carmichael:

 Watch the Video

I have received two requests this month for patterns for a DIY scroll saw stand. I'll be honest. I cannot design one better than the one Steve Carmichael sells plans for. He sells the instant download plans for $6. And to add to the already great deal he has a video explaining the construction of the stand.

Steve has the DeWalt mounted on the stand but it could be easily modified to hold most scroll saws.

I am not normally a big fan of putting scroll saw stands on wheels but in this case, he wanted it mobile. Just make sure you buy a good locking caster if you use the wheels.

Steve talks about changing the dimensions depending on the height of the stool you sit in while you scroll. His plans are pretty easy to modify.

I like just about everything this stand has to offer. It has a small footprint. It is a three-point stand to help prevent wobble. It has storage and looks nice. You could add a nice touch with paint.

The only thing I would incorporate if I were building this stand would be a location for my footswitch.

If you have been looking for good quality plans for a DIY stand then this is the best I have seen.

Steve also has a fun YouTube channel. Check it out even if you don't need a stand.
