Rubber Band Powered Top

Here is a simple and fun project that you can build for a child or take the child into the shop and help him/her build it. You usually see these made with a pull string but I wanted to be a little different and use a rubber band. It works pretty good. I bet you have enough wood in you trash can to build this one.

Be a little careful to get the dowel centered in the top. Take your time when you scroll the round disk. You can get a nearly perfect circle on the scroll saw with practice. Give yourself the width of the pattern line for error. The blade should never not be touching the line as you cut. You can do it. The disk in the picture is right off the saw with no sanding to round it.

The dowel in the back is so you can easily change the rubber band if it breaks.

I put together a quick video to show you how it works and a few tips to build it.
