The pattern of Jesus is a little over 8" tall and has two 1/4" thick layers.
The giraffe pattern is 10.25" tall, and all the layers are cut from 1/4" thick wood.
Why Stack cutting on the scroll saw is more than just saving time.
Stack cutting saves time. That is clear, but it is also more than saving time. When you cut thin or soft material on the scroll saw, the blade has little resistance from the wood. Without some resistance, it can make the blade want to get away from you easier. You may overcut inside corners or simply have trouble following the pattern line. Cutting 1/8" thick plywood can be a challenge.
One solution is to stack-cut the thin material just to add more resistance to the blade. If you do not need two or more of a part, then consider making two of the projects. I have many times stacked cut parts and considered the extra parts as waste. I would rather have waste than a poorly cut part.
When I stack cut I prepare the wood by wrapping it in blue painters tape, then apply the pattern. This is only one way to stack the wood. Some scrollers use double-stick tape. Some use small brad nails in the corners. However, the way you stack the wood does not matter as long as the stack does not shift while you cut.
I will stack cut as many as three or four layers of 1/4" and double that for 1/8" thick wood. Even two layers of 1/8" plywood will make a significant difference in the resistance to the blade.
Wrap the tape all the way around the stack and pull it tight. You want the
tape tight so there is no movement between the wood.
Market Analysis for Scroll Saw Projects Popularity and Profit.
A fair number of my readers either sell scroll saw craft items or would like to make some sales. I decided to do some research and try to determine the popular and profitable items sold over the last 5 years. I used Genspark AI to gather the data. It used sources like Etsy and other social media sites. It is a comprehensive analysis and gives a lot of detail, but there is also more to making sales than the numbers. From presentation to location, it all makes a difference.
This report may not make you rich, but it can provide some useful information to help you start selling scroll saw crafts.
